Brooklyn Beckham’s first tattoo, placed on his forearm, was a way for him to connect with his father, David, whom he was once very close to.
Shortly after his 18th birthday, Brooklyn and his father went to a Hollywood tattoo parlor owned by the famous Mark Mahoney, located just off Sunset Boulevard. Brooklyn decided to get a tattoo of a Native American chief, similar to one his father already has on his body.
Brooklyn shared a photo of his new tattoo on Instagram, revealing it was a tribute to his father. He captioned the post, ‘Just like dad!’
It’s been nearly nine years, but a cherished memory is now ruined for David. Brooklyn seems to be using something they once both loved – something they used to discuss for hours – as a way to upset his separated parents.
It was revealed yesterday that the 26-year-old has modified another tattoo honoring his father. He’s partially covered up a large anchor on his upper right arm, which used to include the word ‘dad’.
Brooklyn Beckham was spotted with his wife, Nicola Peltz, near their Los Angeles home wearing a white T-shirt. The shirt was noticeably covered with various abstract shapes and a star design.
Beneath that, there’s another handwritten message saying ‘love you Bust.’ ‘Bust’ was a nickname David’s father gave him when he was a child, and David later got it tattooed on his neck in 2015 as a tribute to his oldest son.
The tattoo on Brooklyn’s arm appears to have faded, almost as if it was removed with a laser – it’s much lighter than it used to be.
Also, the tattoo of the year 1975 on his right hand – a tribute to his father’s birth year – had faded and was no longer noticeable.
People close to Brooklyn say he’s been deeply affected by his father’s passing, and he no longer feels it’s right to keep the tattoo he had to honor him.
It appears Brooklyn Beckham frequently covers his tattoos. He recently had a tattoo on his chest, originally dedicated to his mother Victoria and referencing the Spice Girls song ‘Mama’, inked over.
This raises the question of whether Brooklyn Beckham will get any more of his family tattoos covered up. He already has quite a few, including a heart with ‘Mum’ on his left shoulder, and tattoos representing each of his siblings – Romeo, Cruz, and Harper – which are said to show their birthdays, as well as a ballerina on his leg dedicated to his sister.
As a lifestyle expert, I can tell you this latest situation with David and Brooklyn is really hitting him hard. I’ve heard from people close to the former England captain that, while it might seem small to cover up a tattoo, it’s actually deeply meaningful to David and Brooklyn. It’s not just a trivial matter; it’s genuinely upsetting for him.
A close family friend shared that Brooklyn had always admired his father’s tattoos and wanted to get some of his own. He was fascinated every time David got a new tattoo and looked up to him, wanting to be just like his dad.
David was so excited about Brooklyn getting his first tattoo that he insisted on being there with him, even making Brooklyn reschedule if he’d planned to go alone. Apparently, David almost got a tattoo himself while in Paris with a former girlfriend, but didn’t. A friend shared this story with me.
David learned about the appointment just in time and told his friend he wanted to witness his first tattoo. Because of that, Brooklyn rescheduled, and they went a few weeks later.
So Brooklyn’s decision to cover the tattoo has stunned those familiar with their relationship.
Friends of the Beckham family say Brooklyn used to look up to his father immensely. However, Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola, haven’t spoken to his parents since last summer, after sending a legal notice asking them to stop reaching out.
A friend shared that Brooklyn, like his father, dreamed of playing professional football. There were heartwarming stories, such as when two-year-old Romeo cried on a flight to the Euros in 2004. Brooklyn, showing incredible maturity, comforted him, reminding Romeo that their dad was David Beckham. Brooklyn truly looked up to his father, even playfully ‘borrowing’ clothes from his wardrobe. He missed David deeply whenever work took him away, and while he loved his mother, his connection with his father was especially strong.
Honestly, it absolutely destroyed me when I saw what Brooklyn did. Can you believe he basically aired all his family drama on Instagram? Six whole pages of him pouring out his feelings about David and Victoria! It was so brutal, everyone was talking about it. Apparently, things have been strained since last April – he and Nicola didn’t even go to David’s 50th birthday, even though they were already in London! It just… it broke my heart for everyone involved. I’ve been following them for years, and seeing this unfold publicly is just awful.
One of the most shocking accusations was that Victoria, age 51, had interrupted her husband’s first dance at their 2022 wedding and danced with him in a way that was considered inappropriate. Victoria strongly denied the claims, and sources close to her explained it was actually a sweet and innocent family moment while singer Marc Anthony performed.
However, Brooklyn insisted: ‘I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.’
He stated he has no desire to repair his relationship with his parents, claiming they are controlling and put on a false front. He also accused them of attempting to sabotage his marriage to Nicola, suggesting they value the ‘Beckham’ brand more than family. He feels he’s finally found peace by distancing himself from them.
His tattoo cover-up is just the latest salvo in this ugly fallout.
This week, Nicola Peltz’s father, 83-year-old billionaire Nelson Peltz, publicly addressed the ongoing family dispute. Speaking at a Wall Street Journal event near his $76 million Palm Beach home, he jokingly responded to a question about recent media coverage by saying he hadn’t noticed it.
When asked for advice for his family, he said he strongly urged them to avoid the media. He questioned what good had come from previous press coverage, and indicated that the situation involving his daughter and the Beckhams was a separate issue he wouldn’t discuss further today.
I’m so proud of my daughter and her husband, Brooklyn. I really hope they have a long and happy life together.
David and Victoria Beckham haven’t made any public statements about what’s happening, but people close to them say they’re privately hoping their oldest child will repair their relationship.
I’ve known these people for years, and honestly, I never imagined things would end like this. It’s just shocking – they were always so close, and I would have bet money on them staying that way. It’s a terrible fallout, and I really didn’t see it coming.
It’s unlikely they’ll ever make up, unfortunately. Although their current disagreement is just about a tattoo, it’s the meaning behind it that really hurts David, since getting tattoos together was something they always shared.
