Scream 7 confirms runtime and unsurprising age rating ahead of cinema release this month

After a difficult lead-up to its release, the running time and age rating for the newest Scream movie have now been officially announced.

After the success of the sixth movie, a seventh Scream film was announced in 2023. However, the project faced several setbacks when key stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, along with director Christopher Landon, decided not to participate.

Neve Campbell will be back for a future Scream movie after sitting out Scream VI because of a disagreement over salary. Kevin Williamson will be directing the film.

Before its release on February 27th, it’s been announced that Scream VII will be 113 minutes long.

It is slightly shorter than Scream VI, which sits at 122, but around the same length as Scream V.

The BBFC rated it 18 due to its intense and graphic violence, which isn’t unexpected given the film is part of a legendary slasher series.

Fans are asking to boycott Scream VII after Spyglass fired actress Melissa Barrera due to her social media posts regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Spyglass released a statement saying they have absolutely no tolerance for antisemitism or any form of hate speech. This includes false claims about genocide, ethnic cleansing, distorting the Holocaust, or anything clearly hateful.

After leaving the project, Barrera shared on Instagram that she strongly condemns antisemitism and Islamophobia, and rejects all forms of hate and prejudice towards any group.

As a proud Mexican woman, I recognize I have a unique opportunity to be heard, and I feel it’s my responsibility to use that voice to speak up for issues I believe in and support those who need it most.

All people everywhere deserve to be treated with respect, have their basic rights protected, and be free. I firmly believe that we shouldn’t judge an entire group of people based on the actions of their leaders, and that those in power should always be open to scrutiny.

I constantly hope for an end to loss of life, violence, and a future where everyone can live together peacefully. I’ll keep using my voice to support those who are vulnerable and fight for peace, security, human rights, and freedom. I can’t and won’t stay silent.

Shortly after Ortega and Landon departed the project, the release of the Scream VII trailer last October sparked renewed calls for a boycott.

Campbell won’t be the only familiar face back for the next installment; she’ll be joined by Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Scott Foley, Matthew Lillard, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding.

The show is adding several new actors to the cast, including Joel McHale, Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos, and Ethan Embry.

Scream 7 is released in cinemas on 27th February.
