The new Masters of the Universe movie is already impressing longtime fans, and the filmmakers have now confirmed it will lean into the fun, sometimes over-the-top, spirit of the original series. A trailer released earlier this year generated a lot of excitement, showing a version of the story that’s both true to the source material and updated for modern audiences. According to the creative team, the movie delivers exactly what fans have been hoping for.
The first glimpse of the new Masters of the Universe movie arrived last month with its trailer, showcasing Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn. Director Travis Knight recently spoke with Empire magazine about his vision for the film, which is based on the popular ’80s toy line and cartoon series. Knight explained that he embraced the franchise’s inherent playfulness rather than trying to make it overly serious for a live-action adaptation.
The whole thing has a playful, slightly ridiculous quality, and we’re fully aware of that – we even lean into it. I actually think that’s a good thing. We’ve built that humor into the story to make it more relatable for today’s viewers. For example, a character might have an unusual name, but the movie will eventually explain the reason behind it.
More to come.
