Both fans and critics are enjoying IDW’s prequel series, Event Horizon: Dark Descent, which reveals the terrifying story of the spaceship Event Horizon‘s first voyage. This has created a lot of excitement for the upcoming Event Horizon: Inferno miniseries, which continues the connection to the beloved 1997 horror film.
We’re excited to share the cover for the third issue of the series, illustrated by Rob Carey! Plus, you can find details about the first issue, releasing in April. Make sure to let your comic book store know if you want a copy by March 16th, which is the deadline for them to place their orders.
What is the solicitation for Dark Horizon – Inferno, and what does the editor of the series have to say about it?
Miniseries premiere! New jumping-on point!
Imagine the sci-fi action of Aliens combined with the terrifying world of Dante’s Inferno! This comic continues the story from the biggest horror hit of 2025, pitting space marines against demons on the terrifying ship, the Event Horizon.
The starship Event Horizon vanished in 2040. Seven years later, it reappeared, but something evil had taken control. After killing the team sent to find it, the ship was destroyed, leaving only its front section behind – a piece containing the powerful gravity drive that allowed it to travel between dimensions. Now, two centuries later, a wealthy billionaire has arrived at the wreckage near Neptune with his own fleet of ships. He’s obsessed with the Event Horizon and won’t hesitate to risk his employees’ lives to learn its secrets.
Christian Ward, known for his work on Event Horizon: Dark Descent and Two-Face, is back with a new story inspired by the beloved sci-fi film! He’s joined by acclaimed artist Rob Carey (Outsiders, Aliens: Resistance). Prepare for a horror that goes beyond anything you can imagine – it’s far worse than hell itself.
Okay, so I’ve been really into this series called DARK DESCENT, and it’s awesome! The creators, Christian and Tristan Jones, took that creepy vibe from the movie Event Horizon and actually showed us what happened to the crew when they went through that black hole – seriously chilling! Now, they’re back with a new story called INFERNO, with Christian teaming up with Rob. This one’s different though. Instead of space horror, they’re asking what would happen if a super-smart, evil genius like Lex Luthor decided to mess around with the underworld. It’s expanding the story in a really cool way, and I’m super hyped to see where it goes!
Event Horizon is a dangerous place where many have died. This time, though, we’re showing readers something different: the fate of a billionaire in Hell, and it’s going to be intense.
What do the writer and artist of the series have to say about the project?

It’s both amazing and a little intimidating to have the chance to work on new ideas for Event Horizon. The film has a truly dedicated fanbase – and for good reason! It’s an incredible, terrifying, and captivating movie, and arguably one of the most visually striking horror sci-fi films ever made.
Tristan Jones’ artwork on the DARK DESCENT comic was fantastic, seamlessly fitting into the existing EH universe. With INFERNO, the goal was to build upon the established story in a way that both challenged and enhanced it. Anyone familiar with DARK DESCENT knows how skillfully Christian writes and how much he values the EH mythology. His dedication to telling this story was truly inspiring.
I’m really excited for readers to experience INFERNO! Christian gave me an amazing script as an artist, and I immediately wanted to start drawing it. I’m putting all my effort into making the artwork worthy of such a great story.
It should be clear that we both absolutely love Edgar Allan Poe, science fiction, and horror. Once readers get issue 1, they’ll see how much passion and dedication we’ve put into this world, and we hope they’ll feel the same sense of belonging we did while creating it – like they’ve finally found a place they can call home.
It’s a real honor to continue the story of this much-loved franchise, and I want to thank everyone involved – especially our fantastic editor, Nic, as well as the teams at IDW and Paramount, the original creators, and of course, the fans for believing in me.
I’m a big fan of both science fiction and horror, especially when they surprise you. That feeling of not knowing what will happen next is what I really enjoy, and it’s exactly what I aimed for with INFERNO.
Rob Carey and I are making some bold creative choices, but everything we’re doing is rooted in our love for and respect of the original film.
I think of INFERNO as continuing what made the original film and DARK DESCENT comic work so well: the chilling emptiness of space, terrifying cosmic forces, both internal struggles and genuine monsters, and a spaceship that actively preys on those trapped inside. However, this time, everything is much more intense and fast-paced – we’re really speeding towards a terrifying climax.
Truly it’s Dante’s Inferno meets Aliens. So buckle up and brace yourselves.
I was chatting with a friend recently about how effective it is to combine different ideas when creating something new – like describing a story as a mix of two well-known concepts. We both thought that combining Dante’s Inferno with Aliens is a particularly striking and imaginative example.
Event Horizon: Inferno #1 is due out on April 22
