Matthew Macfadyen will appear alongside Rachel Weisz in the upcoming film adaptation of the psychological thriller, Seance on a Wet Afternoon, directed by Tomas Alfredson.
This story, originally a 1961 novel by Mark McShane, centers on Myra Savage, a woman who becomes a medium and holds seances in her home, helped by her husband, Billy.
To kickstart her career, she hatched a plan to kidnap the daughter of a rich couple, hoping to then offer her help in the search and gain recognition.

This story was first made into a highly acclaimed film in 1964, featuring performances by Kim Stanley, Richard Attenborough, and Judith Donner.
In the upcoming version, Macfadyen, known for his role in Succession, will play Myra’s husband, Billy, and Weisz, famous from The Mummy, will portray Myra.

The new film, written by Jack Thorne (who also wrote Adolescence), tells the story of Myra and Billy, who kidnap the son of a rich family and offer to help the police find him. But as the story unfolds, Billy discovers Myra has a hidden agenda that could put them both in danger.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming for the movie is now underway in the UK. There’s no confirmed release date at this time.
When the film was first announced, director Alfredson explained that he was attracted to the story’s intricate characters. He praised Jack Thorne’s script for combining compelling psychological depth with a suspenseful and unpredictable plot.
Featuring Rachel Weisz, who both produced and stars as Myra, this film promises to be a gripping and disturbing experience. It’s a deeply unsettling look at how far someone will go when facing hardship, and how easily the mind can blur the lines between what’s real and what isn’t.
Rachel Weisz will be back as Evelyn Carnahan in the fourth Mummy movie, and Brendan Fraser is also returning as Rick O’Connell. Weisz didn’t appear in the third film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, where Maria Bello played Evelyn instead.
Seance on a Wet Afternoon has yet to confirm a release date.
