Kelly Clarkson’s future plans revealed after shock exit from talk show… after ex Brandon Blackstock’s death

Kelly Clarkson surprised fans this week by announcing she’s leaving her talk show on NBC after seven seasons.

But the singer still has many career paths up her sleeve.

Kelly Clarkson, 43, announced on Monday that the current season of her talk show will be her final one. This comes less than a year after the passing of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who died from cancer last August.

The singer of “Stronger” announced she’s leaving the show to focus on raising her two children, and she expressed her thanks to everyone she’s worked with over the years.

I read in People that Kelly Clarkson is really embracing a more relaxed lifestyle as she moves into this new chapter of her life. It sounds like she’s looking forward to slowing things down a bit, which is lovely to hear!

After working a very demanding job for years, she’s looking forward to a more relaxed lifestyle and having more time with her children, free from the rigid schedule of a daily television show, according to a source.

I’m so thrilled for her! She’s getting a chance to balance her passion for music with being at home more – it’s wonderful that she can finally have both, and still create the amazing work we all love.

According to a source, Clarkson plans to keep focusing on her music career in the future.

Kelly still loves making music and performing, and she’s happy to collaborate on projects she finds exciting, as long as they don’t involve a lot of daily work.

The insider continued, ‘For her, this next phase is about balance.’

The talk show host announced on Monday that the current season, the seventh, will be her last. The show first began airing in 2019.

Clarkson started by saying how lucky she feels to have worked with the amazing team at TKCS in both Los Angeles and New York.

She fondly remembered some of her best experiences on the show, and then expressed her thanks to the people who helped her – her team, musicians, and fans.

Before leaving the talk show, the star praised NBC as a ‘fantastic partner’ and acknowledged that it had been a difficult choice to make.

I’m taking a break from my usual routine to focus on my children, and it feels like the best decision for our family right now.

The mother of two said this wasn’t a farewell. She plans to continue making music and performing occasionally, and fans might even see her on shows like ‘The Voice’ in the future – she’s keeping her options open and excited about what’s next.

The singer ended by saying, ‘Thank you all so much for letting our show be a part of your lives, for believing in us, and for sticking with us through seven amazing years.’

The Kelly Clarkson Show raked in a number of accolades during the course of its time on the air.

The NBC show recently received eight Daytime Emmy Award nominations and won two: one for exceptional lighting and another for outstanding live sound mixing and editing.

According to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail last week, the star enjoys the show but isn’t prioritizing its continuation in the future.

The singer plans to give her best performance this season, but also wants to conclude her work while she’s still at the peak of her career.

Kelly Clarkson shares two children: 11-year-old daughter River and 9-year-old son Remington, with her former husband, Brandon Blackstock. They were married for nine years before divorcing in 2022.

Last month, the singer briefly shared how her children were coping after the death of their father, Blackstock, last year.

A fan question, shared on The Kelly Clarkson Show’s YouTube channel, asked Kelly what one daily activity makes her happy.

Clarkson shared that he’s at a sweet spot with his kids, who are nine and eleven. They’re old enough to be independent with things like using the bathroom, but they still enjoy and ask for cuddles and affection.

The singer of ‘Because Of You’ shared that her family has been going through a lot lately, and she’s been letting her children sleep in her bed more often.

She continued, ‘It’s my two dogs, my two kids and me. It’s a lot.’

The mother of two explained that she especially loves that time of day because of the sweet conversations they have. She considers it her favorite part of the day.

Singer and songwriter Sharon Blackstock died on August 7, 2025, at the age of 48, after a three-year fight with melanoma. Butte Funeral Home announced her passing, describing her battle as ‘brave and courageous’.

Just before news of her passing was made public, Clarkson shared on Instagram that she was putting off the rest of her Las Vegas shows scheduled for August 2025.

People magazine reported last month that the singer is deeply saddened for her children following the passing of Blackstock, according to a source.

It’s understandably devastating to lose her father, and she’s processing a lot of difficult emotions. However, she’s a remarkably strong person and handles things with resilience; she doesn’t easily break down.

According to a source close to her, she approaches life with a practical mindset and prioritizes creating a stable and nurturing environment for her children.

Clarkson is prioritizing her children and is described as a wonderful mother.
