Victoria Beckham has reunited with the Spice Girls for a singalong, ending her absence since she declined to participate in their 2019 tour.
Despite ongoing family drama with her son Brooklyn, 26, Victoria, 51, gathered with the Spice Girls to rehearse their hit song ‘Viva Forever’ in her London dining room – marking the 30th anniversary of the band’s formation.
Mel B, age 50, didn’t appear, likely due to her ongoing conflict with Geri Halliwell-Horner, 53. Despite the disagreement, Mel B has expressed interest in reuniting with the band.
As the women harmonized, Victoria’s son, Cruz, age 20, played guitar. His girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, 29, was seated at the table, and the family’s chefs observed from the kitchen through glass doors.
Victoria has been suggesting a possible return to her band by sharing a video of herself singing one of their popular songs and recently spending time with her former bandmates Emma Bunton, Mel C, and Geri.
David Beckham, 50, seems to be enjoying the renewed attention around the Spice Girls, sharing a heart emoji in response to his wife’s new video. This follows reports that their son, Brooklyn, has removed tattoos dedicated to his parents, including the word ‘Dad’ from his arm.
The ladies have been teasing the fact that something is in the pipeline for some time.
In November, Mel C talked about her new album, ‘Sweat,’ on Good Morning America, and was asked about the possibility of a Spice Girls reunion.
Mel crossed her fingers and said she was still hopeful for the future. Next year will be their thirtieth anniversary, and she fondly remembered their 2019 tour, especially the amazing stadium shows they played in the UK.
We’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved and it’s amazing to see new generations discovering and loving the Spice Girls. I’d really love to perform with the girls again.
We’re exploring potential options and having conversations, but we’re being very careful. We want to be certain any new direction is the right fit and that we all agree on it before moving forward.
Mel also confessed she still hopes the Spice Girls will reunite, and this time she’d love for Victoria to be part of it.
Being a Spice Girl again was an incredible experience. It felt special because so much time had passed, and we were all truly focused on enjoying the moment and recognizing how much it meant to our fans.
It was a truly wonderful experience. We were finally able to relax and savor every moment. It makes me a little tearful just thinking about how much I’d love to repeat it.
Mel B hinted at a possible Spice Girls reunion following Victoria Beckham’s recent chart success with her 2001 song, ‘Not Such An Innocent Girl.’ This comes after her son, Brooklyn, made some harsh comments, causing a public stir.
Scary Spice was seen liking a clip about the band getting back together.
In a clip from the “Shouldn’t Laugh But…” podcast, host Laura Smyth proposed that Victoria could help distract from the negative publicity surrounding her son’s comments by reuniting the group.
Mel B’s recent activity online led fans to believe a Spice Girls reunion might finally be happening, after years of speculation.
As a devoted listener, I was really struck by what Laura said to Victoria on the podcast. She was incredibly direct, telling her plainly that there’s only one path to recovering from this PR nightmare.
Just three words: a Spice Girls reunion. It’s going to be huge, and I really want you to be a part of it. I’m not hoping for just four members to get back together – I want the original five!
Mel B and Geri are said to have had an ugly falling out which has scuppered new projects.
In 2024, reports surfaced indicating that Geri blocked a major television deal that would have earned each of the five group members a million pounds.
Reports also indicated she cancelled plans for a Spice Girls reunion tour and a documentary celebrating the band’s 30 years.
According to sources, a major falling out between Geri and Mel B created so much tension within the group that they struggled to find a manager who could effectively navigate projects and get things done.
The conflict started in 2019 when Mel revealed on Piers Morgan’s talk show that she and Geri had a brief romantic relationship during the band’s popular years in the 1990s.
Geri insisted the affair never happened, while Mel was accused of fabricating the story to boost sales of her memoir, ‘Brutally Honest’.
The Spice Girls seem to be enjoying their time together. Emma recently posted an old photo remembering her time in the group, following her 50th birthday celebration with them.
She shared a photo on Instagram that Mel C had originally posted, with Mel C playfully commenting, ‘I wish I still had that Tommy Hilfiger coat! I love my Victoria Beckham and Emma Bunton ones.’
I always thought it was over when Victoria said she was completely focused on her fashion line. She was so firm about it – she kept saying her time with the Spice Girls was just a four-year thing, and that chapter of her life was closed for good. I really believed she wouldn’t go back!
She explained to Vogue Germany that it was a difficult decision, but she needed a lot of strength to decline rejoining the Spice Girls for their 2019 tour.
To be able to say, “I’m choosing not to do this because the situation has changed,” is a powerful thing.
She explained that she’d prefer to focus on her family and business, saying she’s content with who she is at 45.
Victoria did however confess the idea of a Vegas residency is one that appeals to her.
In an interview with Andy Cohen on Sirius XM last October, she revealed that she struggled with self-confidence before joining the Spice Girls, and that the group helped her believe in herself.
While I enjoy performing on stage, I’ve realized it’s not what I want to focus on long-term.
She joked that she wasn’t even sure she could still sing, admitting she never considered herself a particularly strong vocalist. While the idea of performing was appealing, she knew a world tour was out of the question – she has a job to consider.
‘How good would the Spice Girls be at the Sphere? I love the idea of it.’
Victoria Beckham shared in her Netflix documentary that David convinced her to participate in the 2007-2008 Spice Girls reunion tour, despite her initial reluctance.
She said: ‘David was like, “It’s really good for the kids to see you do this.” He mum-guilted me!’
She appeared to be feeling sentimental in November, sharing a simple, acoustic video of her and Cruz singing “Viva Forever.”
Victoria’s most recent performance with the band was at the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. Before that, she toured the world with them in 2007 and 2008.
Geri left the band in 1998 in the middle of their world tour and on Mel B’s birthday.
In 2018, Mel shared on the show Loose Women that she was deeply hurt and her fellow Spice Girls were also very upset when Geri decided to leave the group.
She was upset that her friend was leaving on her birthday. While she was naturally bothered by her friend leaving, what really hurt was that her friend didn’t talk to her about it first.
I truly value her as my closest friend, and I have strong bonds with all of them. What upset me most was that she didn’t feel comfortable enough to share what she was going through with me – she just shut down and disappeared.
Mel explained that they looked everywhere in the hotel for her, but she wasn’t there. She had already booked a flight and returned to England.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen firsthand how hidden struggles can impact even the most public figures. It was really heartbreaking to learn about Geri’s battle with a severe eating disorder. Mel shared that she felt trapped and ultimately believed leaving the group was her only option. Honestly, while we understood her pain, it was incredibly disruptive to the show, and we had to essentially start over. It was a tough time for everyone involved, navigating both concern for Geri and the logistical nightmare of rebuilding the production.
We couldn’t find her anywhere, and we started to worry something terrible had happened, like a kidnapping. Everyone was really panicked. Then we discovered she’d unexpectedly flown back to England. After that, we immediately started working hard to rework the show. I kept trying to reach her by phone the whole time.
Mel explained the band was initially unaware of the true reason for what happened. She added, ‘We only learned the full story much later.’ She also acknowledged that everyone handles stress and difficult circumstances in their own way, and she personally wouldn’t have acted as someone else did.
‘So I do understand it but it makes me go, “Oh”, a little bit.’
The former X Factor judge explained that they’d worked things out with the other person over time, recently confirming, ‘I have talked about it. We’ve discussed it on and off over the years.’
She explained that she felt trapped and didn’t want to appear happy when she wasn’t. I can definitely relate to that feeling.
That friendship was really awful for me. I even spent my birthday looking for her, feeling completely heartbroken.
She continued: ‘In a weird way it made us closer, we got to understand each other more.’
Mel said her and Geri didn’t speak for a while as she was ‘angry and sad’ at her departure.
It felt like weeks passed. We continued with our tour, but I immediately became upset, quickly transitioning to feeling really sad. Everyone just reacted in a chaotic way.
Everyone coped with the situation differently. As a group, we strongly support each other and female empowerment, so it was really upsetting to realize one of us felt so overwhelmed that she needed to step away.
When asked if she would handle the situation differently today, Mel stated she wouldn’t, explaining that she would still feel deeply hurt and offended.
When Geri left the band, it made international news, and the group eventually stopped performing for two years.
The Spice Girls became incredibly popular in 1996 with the huge success of their first hit song, “Wannabe,” which topped the charts in 37 countries around the world.
The girl group reached the top of the UK charts nine times and had two number one albums.
When Geri left the band, she launched a solo career and enjoyed four number one singles in the UK.
