The Witcher and Poldark stars join Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson in new Luther movie

I’m so excited – another Luther movie is happening! Idris Elba is, of course, back as DCI John Luther, and even better, Ruth Wilson is returning as Alice Morgan! I was really missing her character after she wasn’t in The Fallen Sun, so this is fantastic news.

Anya Chalotra, known for her role in The Witcher, and Kyle Soller, from Poldark, are joining the cast of the upcoming Netflix film based on the Luther series. Their roles haven’t been revealed yet, according to Deadline.

Joining Niamh Algar, Ian Hart, and Stephen Dillane (from Game of Thrones), two new actors have been cast in the movie. Details about the roles these actors will play are currently being kept secret.

Dermot Crowley is returning as DSU Martin Schenk, the character he played in the original series and film. Jamie Payne, who directed episodes of the TV show and the 2023 movie The Fallen Sun, will also direct this new film.

Regarding the upcoming continuation, Payne had previously complimented Neil Cross, the creator of Luther, for developing another “compellingly dark story.”

Payne said he was thrilled to be filming again in Lutherland with the incredibly talented Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley.

I’m really excited to work with Ruth Wilson again, who brilliantly portrays the complex and unpredictable Alice Morgan.

Cross explained that Luther, Alice, and Schenk feel like family to him. He often thinks about what they’re up to and worries about the dangers lurking in London while Luther is away. That’s why they’ve teamed up to continue their story and see what happens next.

The TV series Luther first aired on BBC One in 2010 and ran for five seasons, concluding in 2019. The film Luther: The Fallen Sun had a brief run in cinemas in February 2023, and then became available on Netflix on March 10th, 2023.
