Popular Australian girl group Bardot seems to be deliberately omitting one of their original members as they prepare for their reunion concert later this month.
After twenty years apart, the band is getting back together – with four out of their five original members – to perform at the Mighty Hoopla Festival on February 21st.
Belinda Chapple, Katie Underwood, Sally Polihronas, and Tiffani Wood are back in the band, but original member Sophie Monk isn’t participating this time.
They announced their happy news earlier this week by posting a picture collage on social media. The collage included photos from their albums, single artwork, and promotional photoshoots.
Sophie’s face wasn’t seen in any of the pictures, and in one photo, a flower was deliberately placed over her face to hide it.
In another picture, a drink container was placed over Sophie’s face to conceal her identity.
Sophie’s music career began in 1999, when she competed on Channel Seven’s reality TV show Popstars.
The five winners created the band Bardot, which released several popular songs – including their well-known hit, “Poison” – and performed from 2000 to 2002.
Upon leaving the band, Sophie found enormous success as a TV presenter and actress.
Four of the original members will take part in a 25th–anniversary show in Sydney’s Bondi.
The popular band from the 2000s will be performing at the first-ever Sydney Mighty Hoopla festival, organizers announced on Wednesday.
Kesha, Becky Hill, and Delta Goodrem are headlining the LGBTQ+ friendly event.
Oh my gosh, you guys, I almost died! The people who put on concerts just posted something online, and it hinted that Bardot – Bardot! – might be performing again! I’ve been a fan since forever, and seeing that post sent me completely crazy. These Days was my everything growing up, and the thought of seeing them live… it’s a dream come true, potentially!
The brief animation showed a pink flip phone receiving a text message that said, ‘OMG Call me ASAP’.
The post included a picture of a perfume bottle, referencing Brigitte Bardot’s popular 2000 fragrance, Poison.
Festival organizers shared a new video on Wednesday showing Belinda, Sally, Katie, and Tiffani answering calls for the Mighty Hoopla Festival.
‘I wonder what the other girls are doing these days,’ Belinda says in the cheeky promo.
Katie adds: ‘Don’t you ever miss performing, it’s been 25 years?’
The video ends with all four artists together, letting their fans know they’ll be performing at the Mighty Hoopla Festival.
Bardot fans were quick to share their thoughts on the festival’s Instagram.
One fan wondered how a ‘Bardot’ reunion could be complete without all five members, pointing out that Sophie Monk wasn’t included in the initial announcement.
‘@sophiemonk you best be surprising us on the day!!! Don’t be a party pooper,’ wrote another.
Back in 2021, Love Island Australia host Sophie Monk, 46, shot down reunion talk.
‘I think we’ve all grown up very differently,’ she said at the time.
It feels similar to what happens after high school, when everyone starts going their own direction. I guess we’ve all just naturally drifted apart and moved on with our lives.
