Noel Gallagher will be honored at the BRIT Awards, even though he previously said he’d never go back to the event. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
The 58-year-old singer-songwriter, who recently performed with his brother Liam as part of a hugely popular Oasis reunion tour, is being hailed as a defining figure in British music after the band’s successful summer shows.
The 2026 BRIT Awards, sponsored by Mastercard, will be held on Saturday, February 28th at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester. You can watch the show on ITV, and Jack Whitehall will be hosting.
Noel, who previously called the awards show ‘forgettable,’ is now set to receive the Songwriter of the Year award. He had jokingly stated he would only attend if he won an award for ‘being the only person in England to write his own songs.’
As a huge music fan, I was thrilled to hear Noel will be honored at the 2026 BRIT Awards! Stacey Tang, who’s leading the committee and also works at RCA Records, put it perfectly: Noel’s songs have been the soundtrack to so many of our lives for over thirty years – they’re powerful, incredibly well-written, and instantly recognizable. It’s a truly deserving recognition of his amazing talent.
His music has become the backdrop to countless memories for people across generations and has become synonymous with the sound of British music around the world.
She added that recognizing Noel as Songwriter of the Year is a tribute to his incredible musical achievements and his ongoing ability to inspire both artists and fans around the globe.
According to a source, the BRIT Awards are preparing a special video montage celebrating Noel Gallagher’s career before he receives his award.
The Daily Mail has contacted Noel Gallagher’s representative for comment.
Noel described the event in 2013 as completely forgettable, saying there was no excitement either at the BRIT Awards show itself or at the after-parties.
It feels like genuine personalities are rare in the music industry these days. I actually saw the drummer from Muse vaping, and I couldn’t help but ask him if he really was.
I’m not going back to that show unless I actually win something. They announced an award for the only songwriter in England, and it turns out… I’m the only one nominated!
Both Liam and Noel Gallagher, the brothers behind Oasis, are known for their memorable – and often alcohol-fueled – antics at the BRIT Awards throughout the years.
In 1996, after winning an award for Best New Band, Liam unexpectedly took the microphone from presenter Michael Hutchence. He then jokingly said, ‘First of all, I heard Michael was going to hit me, so go on then…’
Before Noel savagely added: ‘Has-beens shouldn’t be dishing out awards to gonnabes.’
The brothers famously teased their rivals in the band Blur by playing a version of Blur’s popular song ‘Parklife’ at the awards show in 1996.
During the 2001 BRIT Awards, while presenting an award to U2, Noel Gallagher made a sarcastic comment about the band A1. He joked that the awards show had been criticized for lacking humor, but A1 winning ‘Best Newcomer’ proved someone was clearly being ridiculous.
Noel Gallagher jokingly explained the brothers’ notorious behavior at the BRIT Awards by saying, ‘You can’t get a hangover if you’re constantly drinking.’
