Ryan Reynolds is starring in a new action comedy set in the 1980s, and he’ll be joined by Kenneth Branagh.
Okay, so Apple TV just dropped a trailer for this new movie called Mayday, and it looks wild! It’s a spy thriller set during the Cold War, but apparently, it’s also got a lot of funny moments – like a buddy cop movie, but with spies. And the best part? It’s coming out on September 4th, so I’ve already marked my calendar!
I just finished playing Mayday, and it throws you right into the action as Lieutenant Troy ‘Assassin’ Kelly, a seriously skilled Navy pilot. Basically, I was sent on this super-secret mission into Russia, and let’s just say things didn’t go as planned – I ended up stuck way behind enemy lines!

Meet Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a tough former KGB agent who surprisingly loves American culture. He finds a pilot who’s been shot down and the two form an unexpected partnership that might save the pilot’s life – and sparks a friendship neither of them anticipated.
Fans are already buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming film. On X, one user wrote, “Can’t wait to see Reynolds and Branagh together!” Another expressed their eagerness, saying, “September 4th needs to arrive faster!” A third fan simply shared their excitement with a joyful, “Oooohhh I’m seated!”

I gotta say, Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool. He totally nails Wade Wilson, and I was stoked to see him back in action as the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ in the new Deadpool and Wolverine movie this year. And get this – he’s even going to be in Avengers: Doomsday! Seriously, he’s become a huge part of the MCU, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
Kenneth Branagh, a celebrated director and actor, has recently portrayed the famous detective Hercule Poirot in three films: Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice. He also directed all three movies.
Fans won’t only be thrilled to see the two lead stars; the movie Mayday also boasts a strong supporting cast. It includes Marcin Dorocinski, known for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Maria Bakalova from The Apprentice and Borat, and veteran actor David Morse, who has appeared in films like The Hurt Locker and The Green Mile, as well as the HBO miniseries John Adams.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the team behind films like Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Game Night, wrote, directed, and produced the new movie.
Mayday will premiere on Apple TV on 4 September, 2026.
