The Traitors star Roxy reveals her mum Judy had to make heartbreaking choice whether to adopt her or her sibling due to their volatile relationship

Roxy Wilson recently shared a difficult story about her adoption: her mother, Judy, was faced with the choice of adopting either her or her sibling.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following Roxy’s story with fascination. Recently, both she and her mom, who was also on the latest season of The Traitors, bravely shared the very open and honest story of Roxy’s adoption. It was incredibly moving to hear them talk about it so candidly.

Roxy and her sister entered foster care as young children because their mother couldn’t provide for them. Roxy was born in Bristol.

In the years after that, the TV personality lived with around six to seven different families, a period she later described as a difficult and unhappy time.

She recalled a vivid memory from her childhood: watching a couple argue so fiercely they began throwing plates, all while she sat in her high chair.

Roxy also recalled being placed in a ‘dirty and cold’ home with lots of other children.

Everything changed for Roxy when her mother, Judy, came across an ad in a magazine featuring children who needed loving homes.

Judy applied to adopt Roxy, who was five at the time and in care with her sister.

Because Roxy and her sister didn’t get along, Judy was only permitted to adopt one of them.

Roxy explained: ‘Mum had to meet us both and decide which one of us that she would adopt.’

That situation was incredibly challenging. I feel fortunate because, unlike some, my sister remained with our family and wasn’t placed in foster care or adopted.

Her life is a stark contrast to my own comfortable one, and it’s easy to see how people can be overlooked and struggle, like she did. It wasn’t her fault; she just wasn’t fortunate enough to get the support she needed.

Roxy and Judy were helping with a government campaign to find 10,000 more families willing to provide foster care.

I remember when Roxy and Judy first met – it was so spontaneous! Roxy literally just hopped on a train to Doncaster, where Judy was living, with only the clothes on her back and a lunch she’d packed. It was a total whirlwind, and so sweet!

She got the flu while traveling, and her foster parents refused to let her return home because of it.

Judy made a quick decision that she would remain with her and ultimately went on to adopt her.

Judy was eliminated early in the competition, and it was later revealed she was connected to another contestant, Roxy. However, Roxy’s daughter performed much better, reaching the later stages of the show.

People watching the show ‘Recruiter Roxy’ were surprised that she didn’t notice who was wearing the distinctive hooded cloaks during her time as a contestant.

During her goodbye speech, Roxy showed she still didn’t understand the game, telling the cameras she hoped Rachel Duffy or Stephen Libby would win – wrongly assuming they were on the loyal team.

Claudia Winkleman shared that Roxy had been keeping a secret: another contestant, Judy, was actually her mother.

Rachel, talking about the plan to kill Roxy in the turret, explained that it would cleverly point the blame at James. She added that they all saw this coming, addressing Stephen directly.

She won’t be exiled, and we’re not going to delay the inevitable. We’ve decided to kill her, and tonight is the night we’ll do it.

After receiving the news she had been ‘murdered,’ Roxy explained she had a feeling it was coming. She’d been very assertive during the game, actively trying to identify the Traitors, and believed they’d noticed her strategy. Despite being eliminated, she expressed pride in how far she’d made it in the competition.

I’m rooting for either Stephen or Rachel to win. They’re both wonderful people, and I hope they’ve been genuine and truthful throughout the competition. It’s been a really fun experience overall.

James sat at the breakfast table, still shocked by Roxy’s departure. He wondered aloud, “How could I have been so off? I was so sure Roxy and Matt belonged together, I’d been telling everyone!”

Jack replied: ‘It just goes to show how wrong we can all be.’

Fans expressed their disappointment on X, reacting to a storyline where a character named Roxy is expected to be heartbroken and vulnerable after discovering her friends have deceived her. One fan wrote they were upset about missing the scene where Roxy breaks down at the fire pit.

Oh my gosh, can we just SKIP to the #uncloaked reveal already?! I’m dying to see Roxy find out that some of the people she thinks are her closest allies – her real Faithfuls – are actually the Traitors! It’s going to be epic, I just know it!

‘Roxy is going to get a shock when she finds out who the Traitors are’;

I’m hoping either Rachel or Stephen takes the win. They’ve both been consistently dedicated throughout the competition. Roxy, while fun, is a bit over the top.

Over breakfast, Claudia let slip a surprising family connection about Roxy. She wondered if we felt sorry for Roxy, then pointed out that Roxy’s mother, Judy, would be even more upset about it.

The other contestants were shocked, and Rachel observed that they had suspected a family relationship all along.

Judy adopted Roxy when she was five-years-old and said it is the best thing she has ever done.

Judy described her as a wonderful person, both in character and appearance, and cautioned against underestimating her strength.

Before her performance, Roxy revealed that the first six years of her life were difficult, but she believes her personal experiences will help her succeed in the competition.

She described the first six years of her life as challenging, but believes those early experiences taught her valuable skills. Learning to adapt, meet new people, and decide who to trust helped her navigate difficult situations and ultimately, she felt, would be an asset on the show.
