Sydney Sweeney’s R-Rated Crime Thriller Breaks 7-Year Box Office Drought With Major Global Milestone

Sydney Sweeney’s latest movie is performing exceptionally well, actually breaking a box office record that hadn’t been broken in seven years, which highlights her growing success in film.

Paul Feig’s thriller, The Housemaid, is continuing its successful run in theaters, now finishing its fifth week. The film is based on Freida McFadden’s popular novel of the same name and stars Sydney Sweeney as a woman seeking employment and Amanda Seyfried as the complex homeowner who hires her. Michele Morrone and Elizabeth Perkins also appear in the movie.

Lionsgate announced that The Housemaid has now earned over $250 million worldwide, making it only the second film in Sydney Sweeney’s career to reach that milestone. The other was Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, where Sweeney had a smaller part. The Housemaid is Sweeney’s most successful leading role to date, performing better than her 2023 film, Anyone But You.
