Reba McEntire gives update on stepson Brandon Blackstock’s kids with Kelly Clarkson amid emotional Grammys tribute

Before her heartfelt performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards, Reba McEntire shared news about the children Brandon Blackstock—her stepson and Kelly Clarkson’s ex—shares with Kelly.

Narvel Blackstock, a music manager and television producer and the ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, died in August at age 48 after a three-year fight with melanoma, an aggressive type of skin cancer.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock have two children together: their daughter, River Rose, age 11, and their son, Remington Alexander, age 9. Brandon was also the stepson of Reba McEntire, as his father, Narvel Blackstock, was married to her for 26 years.

I recently chatted with Reba McEntire on the red carpet at the event in Los Angeles, and she shared a heartwarming update with Entertainment Tonight. She talked about how her stepson’s children are doing, just before her incredibly moving performance. It’s always lovely to see her keeping family close, even while navigating such a public event.

She said:  ‘Everybody’s hanging in there. We miss Brandon so much. He was so much life, joy, love.

He was a fun-loving and memorable guy, and we all keep in touch through a group text where we share stories and remember him. We’re all really looking forward to tonight as well.

She also announced she’ll be singing her song, Trailblazer, as a way to honor her late stepson and friends in the music business who have passed away.

Reba McEntire shared that she has many friends who have passed away, and she recently lost her son, Brandon Blackstock, in August. Tonight’s event will also be a celebration of his life.

The audience was deeply moved by Reba McEntire’s performance, which marked her very first time on the Grammy Awards stage.

During the show’s tribute to those we’ve lost, the country singer performed her Grammy-nominated hit, “Trailblazer,” with a live band. As she sang, a large screen displayed images of her stepson, Blackstock.

Her first-ever Grammys performance was a truly moving moment, captivating a crowd of famous faces at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The family of Brandon Blackstock confirmed his death on August 7th, sharing the sad news in a statement.

Brandon fought a courageous battle with cancer for over three years. He died peacefully, with his family by his side.

We appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers. The family asks for privacy as they cope with this challenging time.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock started dating in 2012 and got married in Tennessee the next year.

The couple later had two children – a daughter named River, who is now 11, and a son named Remington, age 9 – before deciding to divorce in 2020.

While they were married, Blackstock managed his wife’s career, but their professional relationship became a point of contention and led to a legal dispute after they split up.

Even after their divorce was finalized in 2022, they spent over a year fighting in court. The dispute centered around accusations that Blackstock had unfairly taken commissions from business deals he’d set up for his ex-wife.

The California Labor Commissioner ultimately sided with Clarkson, finding that Blackstock had taken on responsibilities – negotiating deals – that should have been handled by her agency.

Bad Bunny used his Grammy Awards acceptance speech on Sunday night to criticize U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), joining a wave of protests against the agency seen throughout Hollywood that evening.

Billie Eilish and Olivia Dean, among other winners at the Los Angeles gala held at Crypto.com Arena, used their platform to celebrate immigrants and criticize Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security. Both artists stood out on the red carpet at the event.

Artists at the event wore ‘ICE out’ pins to protest actions by the agency following the deaths of Keith Porter in Los Angeles, and Renée Good and Alex Pretti, a nurse in Minneapolis, all at the hands of its agents.

The nominations were revealed in November, and Kendrick Lamar, a rapper with 22 Grammy Awards at the time, received the most nominations with nine.

He won five more awards that night, giving him a total of 27 and making him the most-awarded rapper in the show’s history, surpassing Jay-Z’s previous record.
