The Missing Finds Redemption on Free Streaming 23 Years Later

Tommy Lee Jones won an Academy Award for his role in the 1993 film The Fugitive, but it’s his 2003 movie, The Missing, that’s recently gaining popularity on streaming services. He starred in the film with Cate Blanchett and Evan Rachel Wood, both also Academy Award winners.

As of February 1st, the movie The Missing ranks as the 8th most popular title on Tubi, according to FlixPatrol. It’s currently performing better than both Deadfall and Bad Boys on the platform, and is just behind The Whole Nine Yards at number 7.

I recently read a synopsis of The Missing, and it sounds gripping. It’s about a woman named Maggie, played by Cate Blanchett, whose teenage daughter is kidnapped. She has to team up with her long-estranged father, Samuel, to find her, and the summary suggests it’s a really tense journey where they both have to confront their shared history. Apparently, the stakes are incredibly high – they’re racing against time to get her daughter back before she’s taken across the border and forced into a terrible situation. The cast is great too, with Aaron Eckhart and, sadly, one of Val Kilmer’s final roles.

The Missing Has a “Rotten” Score

Ron Howard’s film, The Missing, didn’t perform well at the box office, earning only $38.6 million worldwide despite a $60 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. The movie is based on Thomas Eidson’s 1995 novel, The Last Ride, and takes place in the New Mexico Territory in 1885. Ken Kaufman, known for Muppets from Space, wrote the screenplay. Currently, The Missing has a 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 169 reviews from critics, and an audience score of 51% from over 25,000 viewers.

Fans of the Western genre can catch The Missing streaming for free on Tubi.
