This film chronicles Michael Jackson’s life, starting with his early days as the lead singer of the Jackson 5. It provides an intimate look at his transformation from a child star into a global music icon, and also reveals what his life was like behind the scenes, away from the stage.

Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson (son of Jermaine Jackson), will play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Like his father and uncle, Jaafar is a talented musician. He started singing when he was 12 and released his first song, “Got Me Singing,” in 2019. He’s been on television before, appearing in his family’s reality show, The Jacksons: Next Generation, but this film will be his first major movie role.

The musician was officially cast in December 2023, following a difficult two-year audition period. His grandmother, Katherine, expressed her support for the studio’s choice, noting that he reminded her of Michael and truly captured his spirit. He shared his excitement on social media, saying he was honored to play his uncle in the film.

The movie Michael was written by John Logan and produced by Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain. The cast includes Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Juliano Krue Valdi as young Michael, Miles Teller as John Branca, Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, and, of course, Jaquetta Jackson.

Michael will be released in theaters on April 24, 2026.
