The BBC has unveiled the trailer for season three of The Capture, a gripping thriller that explores the world of surveillance, digital fakery, and how these things could change our understanding of truth and impact society.
The trailer is pretty short, clocking in at just 15 seconds, but it gets to the point.
A central question of the show – how do we tell what’s real from what’s fake, and why did we believe what we saw? – feels even more pressing now. This idea is made strikingly clear in the dialogue, and it’s especially relevant given how quickly artificial intelligence is advancing.

The trailer offers quick glimpses of the main characters, along with scenes of intense action – someone walking down a hallway with a gun, a sniper taking aim, a Molotov cocktail being thrown, and an armed team raiding a location.
The show features a talented cast including Holliday Grainger, Ron Perlman, Ginny Holder, Ben Miles, and Indira Varma, among others.

The show’s description reveals that Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger) publicly aired a fabricated video of a government official a year ago. This exposed a secret program run by UK intelligence, called Correction, which was dedicated to manipulating video footage.
So, there’s been a lot of scrutiny around how the police have been using surveillance, and it’s been a tough time for public trust. But now, Carey’s stepped up as Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism, and she’s really focused on fixing that. She’s launching this new camera system, Operation Veritas, hoping to show everyone that surveillance can be used responsibly and regain our confidence.
Suddenly, a shockingly well-planned and violent terrorist attack strikes at the core of British power, leaving only a single survivor.
As Carey digs further into the case, she uncovers a growing geopolitical crisis that has infiltrated the highest levels of British politics, intelligence, and the press. The conspiracy goes very deep within the government, but the masterminds behind it remain hidden.
As the danger around Carey grows and her trustworthy allies dwindle, how far will she go to survive?

The show is proving to be very popular, receiving high praise from both critics and audiences. It currently has a 96% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Boston Globe described the series The Capture as scary, thought-provoking, and critical of those who underestimate the dangers of deepfake technology. Time magazine praised it as both intelligent and captivating, and noted its relevance to the strange and often frightening world we live in today.
We currently only know that season 3 will premiere sometime this spring. However, we have some good news: seasons 1 and 2, which were previously removed from Netflix, will be available again on BBC iPlayer starting Friday, February 13th.
The Capture airs on BBC One and streams on iPlayer.
