Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga were both nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album: Cyrus for ‘Something Beautiful’ and Gaga for ‘Mayhem’.

Lady Gaga, 39, won and was visibly emotional, crying as her fiancé, Michael Polansky, kissed her. The audience responded with a standing ovation.

Sabrina Carpenter, who had also been nominated for the award but lost to Lady Gaga, was seen happily clapping and standing up as she celebrated the win.

When the camera focused on Cyrus, 33, she was seated and didn’t clap. She appeared to be quietly talking to her fiancé, Maxx Morando, with a slight smile.

Cyrus appeared to be clapping, and possibly had been for a short time, as she was rubbing her hands together. This gesture quickly sparked a strong and critical reaction online.

The Daily Mail has contacted Cyrus’ representatives for comment. 

Viewers expressed strong disapproval online, criticizing Miley Cyrus for not standing or applauding when Lady Gaga won. Comments included angry messages like, ‘Miley, you should have stood up!’ and accusations that Cyrus was being disrespectful.

She said she’s been singing since she was a little girl, and can you believe she still feels shocked to be there? It’s just… so real. And she said she respects everyone in the room so much, which, duh, because she’s Gaga! It just makes me love her even more, honestly. I was probably crying too, if I’m being honest.

She expressed deep gratitude to her fiancé, who is an executive producer on Mayhem, thanking him for his unwavering support. She acknowledged his hard work on the album and throughout the year, simply saying, ‘I love you and thank you.’

Lady Gaga shared advice for women working in the music industry, acknowledging that it can be challenging to collaborate with mostly men in recording studio environments.

She advised women in the music industry to trust their instincts and passionately advocate for their creative work – their songs, their vision as producers, and themselves. She expressed gratitude for the support she’s received throughout her career.

Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, explained that she values dedication, effort, and skill, and that’s what the project, Mayhem, represents to her. She finished by saying, ‘Thank you.’

Miley Cyrus’s recent behavior towards Lady Gaga seems ungrateful, considering Gaga publicly supported Cyrus thirteen years ago when Cyrus faced criticism for an awards show performance.

In 2013, Cyrus performed with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards. Their performance combined her song “We Can’t Stop” with his hit single “Blurred Lines.”
