Man, it’s been ages since I’ve seen David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen on stage together – the last time was October 4, 2015, which is crazy because that was almost five years to the day before Eddie passed away. As a huge Van Halen fan, I, like a lot of people, always hoped for a full reunion with Diamond Dave. And yeah, it looks like Roth and Alex are gonna be working together again soon, but honestly, it’s probably not the reunion we’re all dreaming of.
Rather than a concert, David and Alex Van Halen will be speaking at the TEDxFARGO event in Fargo, North Dakota, on July 30th at Brewhalla. For those unable to attend in person, the talk will be available to watch on YouTube, though it won’t be posted for several weeks.
David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen aren’t the only ones participating in this event. Around 40 speakers will share their expertise with attendees over the two days. They’ll be joined by artist Robert Vargas, a longtime friend of Alex Van Halen.

A good thing about the TED Talk is that it shows David Lee Roth is doing okay. He recently canceled his tour dates without explaining why, leading some, like Sammy Hagar, to believe he was sick. While slow ticket sales could have been the reason, reports didn’t indicate that was the case.
When Michael Anthony cancelled his upcoming shows, Sammy Hagar publicly wished David Lee Roth well and extended an invitation for Roth to join him for a Las Vegas residency. Roth hasn’t publicly acknowledged the invitation yet.
I’m really hoping we get some big news during the Fargo event. It’d be totally out of the blue, but honestly, David Lee Roth has always done his own thing. With no shows of his own on the calendar, maybe he’ll use this gathering to announce he’s joining forces with another old bandmate, Hagar. Fingers crossed, seriously!
Since publishing his memoir, Brothers, in 2024, Alex Van Halen has largely stayed out of the public eye. The book details his relationship with his brother Eddie, as well as the highs and lows of the band Van Halen. It’s a well-written and thoughtful book that’s definitely worth reading for fans of rock biographies.
