Apple’s New Upgrade Program Lets You Lease an iPhone, Mac, or iPad Starting at $17.99 USD Monthly

Summary

Apple has launched a new leasing program called Apple Upgrade, available in the US, for iPhones, Macs, iPads, and Apple Watches. Created with Klarna, it lets customers choose to pay for their devices over 12, 24, 36 months, depending on the product. This program replaces the older iPhone Upgrade Program and gives customers the flexibility to upgrade to a new device early, buy the one they’re leasing, or simply return it when the lease is up.

Apple is now offering “Apple Upgrade,” a new program that lets customers lease its devices instead of buying them outright, making it easier to get the latest Apple technology. The program is available online and in Apple stores across the US, shortly after the company increased prices on some MacBooks and iPads due to parts shortages. With Apple Upgrade, you can lease an iPhone 17e for as little as $17.99 a month, an Apple Watch Series 11 or iPad Air for $11.99 a month, and a MacBook Air for $24.99 a month.

Apple now lets customers ‘lease’ iPhones, Apple Watches, Macs, and iPads through a partnership with Klarna. Approval involves a quick credit check, and you choose to pay over 12-36 months depending on the device. Once your term is up, you have options: trade in for a new model, buy the device outright, or simply return it. You can also lower monthly payments by trading in an old device with Apple Trade In or using Apple Card to earn 3% Daily Cash back.

Apple is ending its iPhone Upgrade Program after ten years and won’t be taking new sign-ups. A key change is that the program no longer includes AppleCare coverage, which was previously part of the plan. It also looks like Apple is putting stronger payment safeguards in place. Software code suggests they’re developing a way to limit access to apps on financed iPhones if payments are late.
