Marvel Studios Finally Seals the Fate of the Last Marvel Television Show
After Marvel Television merged with Marvel Studios, fans have been curious about the fate of shows that weren’t directly part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the actors who played those characters. While Marvel leaders haven’t given many clear answers, they’ve signaled which characters they plan to continue using in their current form, and which ones they’d prefer to restart or leave behind.
As a fan, it’s awesome to see some of our favorites back! So far, the heroes from the old Netflix Defenders series are really getting a proper continuation, especially with the new Daredevil: Born Again show picking up right where the original Daredevil left off and hinting at the rest of the team coming back. We’ve also seen a few characters like Peggy Carter and Black Bolt return, but as different versions of themselves played by the same actors. Honestly, a lot of characters have been left out, but there’s been a lot of buzz about the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. crew possibly making an appearance, which I’m really hoping happens!
Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson is currently the only character from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to reappear after the show ended, with different versions of him appearing in seasons one and three of What If…? Many fans expected other actors to return for projects like Secret Invasion, but so far, neither they nor anyone else from the original cast has made another appearance.
While Marvel Studios is generally open to revisiting past ideas, the current Multiverse Saga—which has given them freedom to change the established story—is ending next year. This means they’re quickly running out of opportunities to officially confirm whether the show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe or to bring those characters back into the fold.
The news that Ghost Rider is getting a new series strongly implies Marvel is ending Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and shutting down Marvel Television altogether.
