I’m so excited! Angela Bassett is back on set filming more of 9-1-1 as Athena Grant. She’s been playing her since the very beginning back in 2018, and she’s such a fantastic character – an LAPD detective who’s also dealing with life after losing her husband, Bobby Nash (played by Peter Krause).
A photo taken on the set and shared with Digital Spy shows Sabrina Bassett as Athena, filming a scene in downtown Los Angeles while talking on her phone.
The show’s tenth season is scheduled to premiere in October and continues the story from last season. In the previous installment, Athena went into space and was later shot, leading to a medically induced coma. After recovering, she decided to change careers, moving from sergeant to detective – a role she’ll fully embrace in the upcoming episodes.
Bassett talked about a particularly difficult scene in 9-1-1, explaining that Bobby’s death at the end of season eight was emotionally challenging for both the actors and viewers.
She wrote on Instagram that working with her co-star, Krause, for eight seasons meant he became a trusted colleague and a close friend, describing him as kind, funny, and compassionate.

Even though Season 9 was the first not to feature Bobby Krause, it was still a critical and popular success, achieving a rare 100% rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
The Age praised the series as wildly entertaining and ‘glorious to watch,’ but Collider found season 9 to be disappointing and ‘lacklustre’.
9-1-1 airs on ABC in the US and is available on Hulu in the US, and Disney+ in the UK.
