The directors of the new Star Trek movie, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, recently discussed their plans for the film, promising a story that will surprise audiences. The duo, who previously worked together on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (as co-writers and directors) and wrote the script for Spider-Man: Homecoming, shared details at San Diego Comic-Con.
Paramount announced a new Star Trek movie last November, and it will tell a completely original story, unconnected to any existing Star Trek films or shows.
This means a fresh group of characters will be leading the story. Goldstein and Daley have verified that a script is in development and promise surprising developments.
So, at the panel, Goldstein explained that the characters in this new project won’t be the ones we’re already familiar with from the Star Trek films. It’s going to be a fresh start with a whole new crew, which is really exciting!

As a huge Star Trek fan, I’m hearing this new movie is going in a totally different direction and won’t connect to what’s come before. That probably means we won’t see any of the classic actors like Patrick Stewart or Kate Mulgrew in it, which is a little disappointing, honestly.
This probably also means we won’t see the actors from the recent Star Trek movies – Chris Pine, Zoë Saldaña, Zachary Quinto, and Simon Pegg – return for this project.
