It’s been almost two years since the last season of The Boys finished, and fans are understandably eager for news about Season 5. The wait is especially tough because the previous season ended on such a cliffhanger!
Billy Butcher violently attacked Victoria Neuman, and then took the virus designed to kill superpowered people, leaving his team behind. Sister Sage then manipulated events to make it look like President-elect Robert Singer had assassinated Neuman. This allowed the Speaker of the House, Calhoun, to seize power. As anticipated, Calhoun immediately pledged his support to Homelander, effectively making him the leader of the United States.
As The Boys attempted to escape the country, Vought’s new team of super-powered operatives caught them. During this, it was discovered that Soldier Boy had survived and was being held in a cryochamber. He escaped after unintentionally killing Grace Mallory. Meanwhile, Ashley injected herself with Compound V and started to change, though her superpowered form hasn’t been shown yet.
So, what next?
‘The Boys’ Season 5 Is Closer Than Ever

Prime Video
The last season of the show kicks off with two episodes on April 8, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video. It will have eight episodes total, released one per week, with the finale airing on May 20. Showrunner Eric Kripke hints at an even more action-packed season than before. But don’t worry, this isn’t the end of the story! Season 3 of Gen V is already planned, and two more spin-offs are in the works: Vought Rising, a prequel taking place in the 1950s that explores the history of Vought International and features Soldier Boy and Stormfront, and The Boys: Mexico, starring Diego Luna.
On June 11, 2024, just before the premiere of Season 4, the showrunner for The Boys announced that the series will conclude after its fifth season. Eric Kripke shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s known for five years how the story would end, and that the events of the Season 4 finale made continuing beyond Season 5 impossible. He described the final season as the show’s equivalent of a catastrophic ending.
Vernon Sanders, a leader at Amazon MGM Studios, confirmed that the show’s fifth season was always intended to be the finale. He explained that the show’s success is thanks to the creative vision of showrunner Eric Kripke, who had previously shared his belief that five seasons was the right length for the story.
According to the Writers Guild of America database, the show’s episode titles are known, though not in the order they’ll air. They include titles like “Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite,” “Every One of You Sons of Bitches,” “The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk,” “Teenage Kix,” “Though the Heavens Fall,” “One-Shots,” “King of Hell,” and “Blood and Bone.” These titles suggest the series will be full of exciting and unpredictable scenes.
The Cast of ‘The Boys’ Season 5

Prime Video
Jensen Ackles is reprising his role as Soldier Boy, but with a voice similar to Batman, and the season finale surprisingly showed his character is still alive – a reveal that excited many fans. The main cast members who survived will also be back for the show’s last season. Jeffrey Dean Morgan will return as Joe Kessler, and hopefully, he’ll have a bigger role this time around, maybe even getting his own weapon like Lucille.
The biggest news is the addition of two more actors from Supernatural: Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. They’ll be reuniting with their former showrunner, Erik Kripke, on his new Prime Video superhero series, completing the show’s lead trio reunion. Fans of the fantasy drama had been hoping for more familiar faces, and Kripke has delivered. Additionally, Daveed Diggs (known from Snowpiercer) and Mason Dye (Stranger Things) have both joined the cast in currently unknown roles, and there are even more announcements to come.
During the Gen V panel at San Diego Comic-Con, a teaser for Season 5 of The Boys was revealed. ‘The Boys’ Season 5 Looks Like a Bloodbath

Prime Video
Details about the new season’s storyline are scarce, but creator Eric Kripke promises an epic and deadly apocalypse. He’s very aware of the high stakes, which is reassuring, especially since he acknowledges that many shows have disappointing finales. He’s determined to avoid that fate and deliver a truly satisfying conclusion for fans. He wants the show to be remembered as a great success, and he’s putting a lot of effort into making sure the finale lives up to expectations.

Butcher is likely to be responsible for a lot of deaths. Having embraced his “Kessler” side, he now has a dangerous virus that can kill Supes, and his focus has shifted from just targeting Homelander to eliminating all Supes – a goal many might understand, considering the harm they’ve caused. Expect a violent rampage, similar to Manchester Black’s, before those who used to work with him can intervene.
The true nature of Homelander, The Seven, and Vought is now fully revealed. They’ve abandoned any pretense of being heroic and are openly asserting their power. With Homelander effectively in control of the country through President Calhoun, his dominance will be felt across the nation, from New York to Los Angeles. He’ll be much more aggressive in getting what he wants, as hinted at in the Comic-Con preview, declaring to a hidden audience that this is now “a safer, more god-fearing nation.”
The new season will probably start with a mission to save The Boys, who were all captured. Annie is expected to be key to the rescue, potentially teaming up with characters from Gen V, as she’s currently the only hero on the outside who can keep a level head. It will also be fascinating to see how the conflict between Soldier Boy and Homelander develops. Season 3 explored a really compelling, dysfunctional family dynamic between them, and hopefully that continues in Season 5.
Colby Minifie, who plays Ashley Barrett, has shared some good news with fans: she’s read the series finale and describes it as both deeply satisfying and emotionally powerful. Fans can trust her assessment! However, the author playfully wonders if a more divisive ending, similar to the finales of shows like The Sopranos and Stranger Things, might actually be more interesting – perhaps even sparking some controversy. Ultimately, they acknowledge that only time will tell if the ending hits the mark.
