TV Reboot of Classic ’80s Movie With 90% RT Score Returns to Streaming 3 Years After Being Purged from Disney+

Streaming services make it convenient to watch tons of shows and movies without needing physical DVDs or Blu-rays. However, there’s always a chance content could disappear when it’s removed from these platforms. This recently happened with some original shows, but one of them is now being re-released on a different streaming service.

In 2021, Disney heavily focused on bringing back beloved movies from its extensive library as fresh content for Disney+. This meant developing new projects like a sequel to Hocus Pocus featuring the Sanderson sisters, a television series based on the 1980s fantasy film Willow, and a reboot of the classic Tom Hanks comedy.

The series Turner & Hooch, starring Josh Peck and Carra Patterson, is a fresh take on the 1989 film. Like the original, it features a police detective and the mischievous French Mastiff, Hooch. This time, the story begins when the detective inherits Hooch after a friend—who owned the dog—is murdered, leading to a new and exciting adventure.

Okay, so I absolutely love this movie! It’s about a U.S. Marshal named Scott Turner who unexpectedly gets stuck with this crazy, messy dog named Hooch. At first, Hooch is a total handful, but they slowly start to bond and become partners. As they work together, they uncover some really suspicious details surrounding the death of Turner’s dad, and it starts to look like it wasn’t just an accident. It’s a fun, heartwarming mystery!

Although the series didn’t achieve widespread critical acclaim – much like the original movie, which received a mixed 57% score – it was far more popular with viewers. The movie only earned a 52% audience approval rating, while the series scored a high 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Turner & Hooch’ is Resurrected by Wonder Project

While many enjoyed the Turner & Hooch series on Disney+, it was taken off the platform in 2023 and appeared destined for Disney’s content storage, similar to Willow, which was removed after viewers weren’t thrilled with its revival. Fortunately, Turner & Hooch is now available to stream again, but it’s not on Disney+.

Fans hoping to rewatch the show can find all 12 episodes on Wonder Project, a faith-and-family channel available through Prime Video. It was added to the platform in early January. This joins another show, The Mysterious Benedict Society, which was also canceled by Disney+ and removed after not attracting enough viewers.
