XD Inc. has revealed that ICEY 2, the follow-up to their popular 2D action game, is in development. The PC version will launch on Steam between April and May 2027, with a mobile version planned for China around 2028. Producer Mark Shaw also announced that a crowdfunding campaign will start on October 1, 2026.

ICEY 2 builds on everything fans loved while expanding its scale and story

ICEY 2 is the sequel to the original ICEY, known for its quick action and unique narration that often breaks the fourth wall. Despite being developed by a small team of about eight people, ICEY 2 is a bigger and more complex game, featuring a larger world to explore, more in-depth gameplay, and a more compelling story.

One of the biggest improvements is bringing back the game’s famous narrator, but now there are actually two narrators. The game world is also much larger – about three times the size of the original – and how the map looks will change based on the decisions you make during the story. This should make each time you play feel unique and different.

New Mask System, strategic combat, and more bosses headline the sequel

The combat system has been significantly updated. They’ve removed powerful heavy attacks and added a new parry system, and instead of a constant shield, you now activate it using skills. However, I’m most excited about the new Mask System. It lets you equip masks on both sides, and each mask provides different benefits to your attacks or skills.

The sequel will also feature more challenging boss battles, and to encourage replayability, you’ll encounter completely different bosses on each playthrough. The story continues immediately after the original game, exploring new ideas like artificial intelligence, a digital world called the Old Net, and a strange, unsettling aesthetic, all while finally revealing answers to questions left unanswered in the first game.

Everything shown about ICEY 2 so far suggests it will be a great sequel, despite us not having seen actual gameplay yet. Mobile gamers will have to be patient, though, as it’s currently scheduled to launch in China in 2028. This release date is subject to change, so keep an eye out for further updates.
