At San Diego Comic-Con, HBO and DC Studios released the first trailer for their new series, Lanterns. This eight-episode sci-fi mystery features Kyle Chandler as the experienced Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, his new apprentice.
The new series, from creators Tom King and Damon Lindelof and showrunner Chris Mundy, follows peacekeepers Jordan and Stewart as they investigate a strange murder in rural Nebraska, which seems to be linked to alien beings called Manhunters who can change their shape. The recently released trailer gives viewers their first glimpse of Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, Jordan’s old mentor who’s now his enemy, and a quick appearance by Nathan Fillion returning as Guy Gardner.
The series is executive produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who also lead DC Studios. The cast features Kelly Macdonald, Laura Linney, Paula Patton, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Nicole Ari Parker, Jason Ritter, Sherman Augustus, and Paul Ben-Victor.
Lanterns premieres globally on HBO on August 16.
