If you’re interested in watching Sheridan Smith’s drama Mrs Biggs – a show described as one of the most fascinating stories you’ve never heard – you should watch it soon, as it’s being removed from Netflix.
This five-part series, set in the 1960s, tells the story of Ronnie Biggs, the famous train robber, and his wife, Charmian (played by Smith). The show focuses on Charmian’s difficult life, starting with how she met Ronnie and continuing through the challenges she faced raising three children after the robbery.
The series Mrs. Biggs first appeared on ITV in 2012 and also aired in Australia. It became available on Netflix last year, but will be taken off the streaming service on August 7th.
So, the whole story was written by Jeff Pope, but he worked really closely with the actual Charmian Biggs – she was a consultant on the series, making sure everything felt right. He even said at the time that he thought it was one of the most incredible stories from the last century that nobody really knew about.
In a previous interview with Digital Spy, Mays discussed the pressure of portraying a real person, particularly knowing Charmian was involved in the project.

He admitted the role created a lot of stress, particularly when filming. He’d never experienced pressure like it before – portraying someone real and so well-known is daunting because everyone already has strong ideas about who that person was. He confessed he was quite scared to take on the project.
Charmian truly pours her heart and soul into her work, and we feel a responsibility to represent that authentically on screen. There’s a lot riding on this project, and we want to do it right.
The actor also spoke highly of his co-star, Sheridan, describing her as a remarkably talented and natural actress – one of the best he’s ever shared a set with.
She’s incredibly talented and did a fantastic job on the show. I really loved being part of the project.
The show boasts a fantastic ensemble cast alongside Sheridan and Mays, with notable performances by Adrian Scarborough, Claire Rushbrook, Jack Lowden, and Tom Brooke.
Mrs Biggs streams on Netflix until 7 August.
