The 2013 film Good Vibrations, featuring Adrian Dunbar from Line of Duty, is now available to stream in the UK. It’s a comedy-drama based on the true story of Terri Hooley, a record label owner in Belfast who played a key role in the city’s early punk music scene.
The film features Sacha Dhawan alongside Richard Dormer, known for his role in Game of Thrones, and Jodie Whittaker from Doctor Who. Liam Cunningham, Dylan Moran, and Michael Colgan also appear in the movie.
Colin Carberry and Glenn Patterson wrote the screenplay together, and Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn jointly directed the film.
Michael Hooley became well-known in the late 1970s when he founded Good Vibrations, a record store in Belfast that eventually grew into a record label. This label famously released The Undertones’ hit single ‘Teenage Kicks’ in 1978.
So I just read about this movie, and it’s seriously cool. It’s based on a real story about a guy named Terri growing up during The Troubles in Belfast. Basically, everything was chaotic, but he started a punk band with his friends – a bunch of misfits, really. While some were getting involved in the conflict, Terri had this awesome idea to open a record shop right in the most destroyed part of town. It sounds like a super powerful and moving story.

Both Empire Magazine and The List praised the film. Empire described it as an energetic story of musical rebellion, highlighting how a man’s love of rock ‘n’ roll challenged the establishment. The List called it ‘inspiring’ and noted how it showed the power of music to bring people together.
According to CineVue, D’Sa and Leyburn’s film is a genuinely heartwarming story that successfully captures the feeling and energy of an iconic musical event without relying on unnecessary plot devices.
The London Evening Standard praised the film’s use of historical footage and its generally upbeat and insightful tone, though they felt it could have been shorter. Little White Lies, as reported by Rotten Tomatoes, simply called it ‘joyous’.
