The first trailer for season three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is here! The Prime Video series will return later this year, continuing the story a few years after the events of season two as Sauron grows stronger during the Second Age.
A new trailer is now available, giving fans a preview of the upcoming episodes after today’s Comic-Con presentation.
Season three is set during the peak of the war between the Elves and Sauron. The infamous villain is attempting to forge the One Ring, hoping it will give him the power to win the war, control everyone, and finally conquer all of Middle-earth.
The creators of the show have already revealed that the upcoming season will depict the forging of the One Ring by the Dark Lord.
According to showrunner JD Payne, this season features a truly menacing villain unlike anything we’ve seen so far. He described the new season as being significantly darker and more perilous, with no character guaranteed safety.
Charlie Vickers, the actor playing Sauron, said filming a particular scene felt incredibly intense, especially considering its length and importance within J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories.

He recalled being overwhelmed with emotion on his first day on set. He felt incredibly lucky to be part of telling that particular story, especially since filming the complex sequence took two full weeks.
Patrick McKay, a co-showrunner on the series, hinted that they’ve created their most technically demanding and ambitious sequence yet. He explained that while the first two seasons focused on establishing the show’s world, they were also carefully laying the groundwork for future storylines.
“The third season is when all those bombs are starting to explode.”
