You know, I actually did talk with director Josh Boone about a potential second New Mutants movie. We were really optimistic about how the first one would do, and I’d pitched the idea of taking a superhero story – or even New Mutants specifically – and leaning hard into the horror elements. Sadly, everything got complicated with the Disney buyout and then, of course, the pandemic lockdowns kept pushing things back. It was frustrating, but that’s just how it went.

He was particularly impressed by the cast’s talent and their chemistry with each other. He felt a strong sense of protectiveness towards them, like a beloved but childless great-uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Sienkiewicz said that Anya Taylor-Joy has become a true icon, and he’s very interested to see who they would cast in a potential reboot. He also strongly believes that the character Warlock should be included, as he was originally planned for the second film but never made it in due to unforeseen circumstances. He’s enthusiastic about the possibility if they decide to move forward with it.

The director revealed that the original plan for a sequel to The New Mutants involved the character Warlock, and Sacha Baron Cohen (known for Borat) was considered for the role. However, the project was ultimately canceled. While a new version of The New Mutants could happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe eventually, Marvel Studios isn’t likely to prioritize it right now, considering the first film didn’t perform well.
Boone directed The New Mutants, which was the thirteenth—and final—film in the X-Men series.
