Robin Williams’s children give rare insight on their bond with late star on what would’ve been his 75th birthday

Robin Williams’s two older children, Zelda and Zachary, shared public tributes to honor what would have been his 75th birthday on Tuesday.

Okay, so this one’s a bit quirky! I saw online that Zelda – she’s turning 37 at the end of July – gave her grandfather, affectionately nicknamed ‘Poppo’, a very unique shout-out on Instagram. She wished him a happy 75th anniversary of… well, his birth, but phrased it as a ‘womb evacuation’! It’s definitely an unconventional way to celebrate someone’s birthday, and honestly? I kind of love the humor!

I wonder what you’d have been like at age 75. I imagine you’d still have that bold style – bright socks and awesome jackets, perhaps even bolder glasses as your vision changed. A little grayer, maybe, but definitely still full of energy!

I wish we could chat about everything, just like we used to, and still share a laugh over my silly dogs. I know you’d laugh just as hard! You are so loved and missed every single day. Happy 75th Birthday, Poppo.

Zelda shared a touching message along with a photo booth picture of her and her father, showing them laughing and being playful together.

Robin Williams and his former wife, Marsha Garces Williams, were married for 18 years and together had two children: Zelda and their son, Cody, who is now 34. The couple divorced in 2008.

Most recently, Zelda voiced the character Spitfire – a Chaos Terran – on six episodes of the Paramount+ animated show Transformers: EarthSpark, which aired in 2024.

Zachary also shared a photo of Robin Williams in his role as an alien from the TV show Mork & Mindy, which was popular from 1978 to 1982.

I can’t believe my dad is seventy-five today! As I was thinking about him, I realized it’s his wonderfully quirky personality – along with how deeply he loves everyone – that I cherish the most.

I’ll always remember the smile lines around your eyes – proof of a life filled with joy. And I’ll never forget your deep compassion and desire to ease the suffering of all living things.

Hey everyone! If you’re looking to celebrate with me, here’s what I’d love: just go out and do something nice for someone else. Brighten their day, make them smile, and add a little more positivity to the world. That’s the best gift you could give – and I appreciate all of you! Sending you lots of love.

Inspired by Dr. Andrew Williams’ work, Zachary and his wife, Olivia June, created Prepare Your Mind – a company that makes amino acid supplements designed to help people better manage stress.

Robin Williams had a son who resembled him during his marriage to Valerie Velardi, which lasted ten years and ended in 1988.

It’s hard to believe it’s been twelve years since we lost Robin Williams. August 11th will be the anniversary of his passing, and I still think about him often. He was only 63, and while many knew he struggled with depression, we later learned he was also battling Lewy body dementia, which wasn’t diagnosed at the time. It just breaks my heart thinking about everything he went through.

The musician, who had previously attended The Juilliard School, was mistakenly believed to have Parkinson’s disease for three months before he passed away at his home in Paradise Cay, California.

Two documentaries explore Robin Williams’ struggle with the illness that ultimately took his life: Robin’s Wish (2020) from Vertical Entertainment, and Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind (2018) on HBO.

Robin Williams, a beloved comedian and actor whose remains were scattered in San Francisco Bay, needed only a Tony Award to achieve EGOT status – winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

Robin Williams was beloved for his memorable performances in films like Dead Poets Society, Hook, Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, The Birdcage, Good Will Hunting, and all three Night at the Museum movies.
