Good news for fans of Kin! A third season of the popular Irish crime drama is officially happening. There was doubt about its return after the show’s production company, Bron Studios, closed down over three years ago, but now it’s been confirmed.
It seems like the issue has been worked out – a third season is confirmed and will likely bring more intense conflicts for the Kinsella family.
Okay, so season three of Kin is bringing everyone back into the Kinsella family drama. Apparently, things are getting really intense now that they’re starting to actually have some power. It looks like old grudges and secrets are bubbling up from within, and honestly, it sounds like the biggest danger to their whole operation isn’t going to be outsiders – it’s gonna be themselves! I’m hyped to see how this all goes down.
Emmett J Scanlan, who plays Jimmy in the show, announced on Instagram that he’s often asked by fans if Kin will be renewed for a third season.
After a pause, he then confirmed: “F**k yeah there is.”
What to Read Next
Kin centers on the Kinsella family caught up in a dangerous gang war. The cast includes Charlie Cox, known from Daredevil, Clare Dunne from The Wheel of Time, Aidan Gillen of Game of Thrones, and Maria Doyle Kennedy, who appeared in Lost Boys and Fairies.
In 2024, the show’s star, Scanlan, revealed on This Morning that its future was uncertain. While there was a lot of interest in the show – leading to a competitive bidding situation – a third season hadn’t been officially approved yet.

There’s quite a bit of excitement around this, and honestly, it feels like multiple parties might be competing for it. I really hope the project gets revived, and I would jump at the chance to play Jimmy again – I truly would.
So, I was chatting with someone about the game, and they told me a lot of companies are interested in picking it up, which is awesome! But honestly, they have no clue who’s going to buy it or where it’ll end up being published. It’s all up in the air right now, which is kinda exciting, but also a little nerve-wracking!
I always try to look on the bright side. I really enjoyed working on the show and am incredibly proud of it. If we get a third season—and the viewing figures on BBC iPlayer were amazing—I’d jump at the chance to return.
Kin seasons 1-2 are streaming on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
