Tom Holland is enjoying a lot of success right now! His recent film, The Odyssey, is doing very well in theaters, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out next week. Even though he’s only 30 years old, Holland has already appeared in some of the most popular movies of the past ten years, including six Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
Despite all his recent success, Tom Holland is still playfully teased about his haircut in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s become a running joke from his time in the popular movie.
On the Dish from Waitrose podcast, Benedict Holland described his hair in the 2018 blockbuster movie as “terrible.” He explained that he was letting it grow out for another film called The Current War.
So, here’s what I usually do between roles – I let my hair grow out as much as possible! That way, when it’s time to design a new character, the director has tons of options to work with. It gives them more freedom to play around with how the character looks.
The director of The Current War, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, really liked my long hair – I had three curls and a big sweeping bang. I was filming that movie at the same time I was working on Avengers.

Holland explained that filming required him to constantly switch between two different looks, but he couldn’t get a haircut due to commitments for the period piece he was also working on. Even though he tried hard to make it work, he wasn’t satisfied with how he looked in the superhero movie.
Looking back at Avengers, I have to admit my haircut was awful. It actually reminds me more of Prince Charming’s hair from Shrek – it just didn’t look right, he explained.
Holland recalled his initial conversation with Christopher Nolan, the creator of The Odyssey, during which Nolan shared his intention to create a film based on Homer’s classic poem.
He shared the story with me and described the part I’d play. I took the script home and was amazed by how well he’d adapted such a huge source material. I think people often focus on his directing, but he’s a really talented writer too.
The actor shared some exciting details about the upcoming Spider-Man film, describing it as “really fun,” “super funny,” and the most emotionally impactful installment in the series so far.
The Odyssey is out in cinemas now. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is released in UK cinemas on 29 July.
