After a five-year absence, Tom Holland is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This comes after the dramatic conclusion of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, where a spell cast by Doctor Strange caused everyone to forget Peter Parker. Now, Spider-Man is navigating life completely on his own.
At a recent press event for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Zendaya discussed how her character, MJ, will be different in the next movie. She explained that in past films, MJ was usually the one who saw the downside of things, while Peter Parker was always hopeful. Now, with Peter facing challenges alone, he’s become more negative, and MJ has unexpectedly started to become more optimistic, suggesting a continued connection between them.
Okay, so going into this new Spider-Man story, it’s clear MJ and Ned are moving on with their lives, and honestly, they seem to be thriving – even without Peter Parker in the picture. Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned, actually said at a recent event that things are going really well for them, which is… tough for Peter, to say the least. It sets up an interesting dynamic, seeing them build these full lives while Peter’s presumably struggling to reconnect.
Ned and MJ sense something isn’t quite right, as Tom Holland explained: “They feel like a piece of the puzzle is missing.” For Ned, tracking Spider-Man feels like a way to reconnect with him. Holland has hinted that everyone except one person has forgotten Peter Parker is Spider-Man, but it’s still unclear who that person is.
