There’s renewed optimism about The Hunt for Ben Solo, a Star Wars movie idea previously proposed by Adam Driver and Steven Soderbergh. After reports suggested Disney had passed on the project, recent statements coinciding with leadership changes at Lucasfilm offer the first encouraging news since the spin-off was initially announced.
As a big Star Wars fan, I was really excited to read the recent interview with Kathleen Kennedy after she stepped down. She finally gave us a promising update about that Ben Solo project Adam Driver and Steven Soderbergh pitched! It’s definitely not confirmed yet, but there’s a real possibility we might actually see ‘The Hunt for Ben Solo’ happen, which is amazing news!
Kathleen Kennedy’s New Hunt For Ben Solo Comments: “Anything’s A Possibility”
In an interview with Deadline, Kennedy spoke directly about the cancelled project, confirming earlier reports that a complete script had been written and positively received by Lucasfilm, even though Disney ultimately decided not to move forward with the Ben Solo spin-off.
The combination of director Steve Soderbergh and actor Adam Driver really delivered with a script by Scott Burns. It was fantastic, and it proves that taking chances can lead to amazing results.
Later in the conversation, Kennedy mentioned that “The Hunt for Ben Solo” was also in development, alongside other projects. She also confirmed that work on James Mangold’s “Dawn of the Jedi” and Steven Soderbergh’s project had been paused.
Ben Solo’s Spin-Off Being On The “Back Burner” Is Easily The Best Update Yet
Although Kennedy hasn’t officially confirmed the movie is happening, her statement that The Hunt for Ben Solo is currently paused is actually encouraging news.
This means the project isn’t dead yet, and the new team at Lucasfilm might be able to pitch it to Disney again, especially because fans have been very vocal about wanting to see it happen – they’ve even organized things like planes flying banners and used the hashtag #SaveTheHuntForBenSolo to show their support.
Dave Filoni is now leading the creative side of Lucasfilm with Lynwen Brennan. He was also one of the Lucasfilm executives who liked the script developed by Adam Driver and Scott Soderbergh.
Although it’s still uncertain, Kennedy’s recent statement as she departs Lucasfilm offers a small glimmer of hope for the planned Star Wars spin-off.
