Apple TV has shared a preview image of its upcoming drama, Being Heumann, an inspiring true story about disability rights advocate Judy Heumann. Ruth Madeley, known for her role in Doctor Who, plays Heumann in the film.
So, I just found out this movie is directed by the same person who did CODA, Siân Heder, which is awesome. And it’s based on the real-life story of Judy Heumann – her memoir, Being Heumann, is apparently a huge bestseller, and it’s all about her life as a disability rights activist. Pretty inspiring stuff!
The movie tells the story of Judith Heumann and her leadership of over 100 disability rights activists who occupied the San Francisco Federal Building for 28 days in a historic protest.

Before debuting on Apple TV in November, the documentary Being Heumann will first be shown to audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival.
TIFF described the movie as a moving and uplifting historical story, highlighting Ruth Madeley’s exceptional acting.
I just saw a new still from the movie, and it shows Sarah Madeley as Judy Heumann at a protest. She’s holding her hands up, like she’s telling a car to stop as it comes near the group – it really captures the energy of the moment.
