A new Star Wars exhibit, called Star Wars: The Experience, is coming to Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute on February 13, 2027. This exhibit is a collaboration between The Franklin Institute, MDSX, Lucasfilm, and Disney Consumer Products. It covers 18,000 square feet and features interconnected galleries that showcase how five decades of Star Wars stories were made. Visitors will see authentic props and costumes from throughout the entire series – from the original movies released in 1977 to the latest installments.
This exhibition goes beyond a typical display of props thanks to its advanced technology. An RFID system tracks visitors and creates a unique, interactive experience tailored to each person. The Franklin Institute calls it a “cinematic journey,” meaning it feels less like a standard museum visit and more like stepping into the world of the franchise itself, with each person’s experience unfolding based on their own choices and interactions.
The location itself is important. The Franklin Institute is a historic and well-respected science museum known for showcasing major, impactful exhibits. Philadelphia will be the first city in the world to debut this exhibition – you won’t be able to see it anywhere else right now.
Opening in February 2027 perfectly coincides with the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, making this exhibition both a look back at the franchise’s history and a major cultural celebration. Given that Star Wars debuted in 1977 and has become a global entertainment phenomenon, such an important milestone deserves a large-scale, physical event.
