The first proper ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer shows Steve Rogers is still worthy

The official trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday” has arrived, but it doesn’t reveal much about what the movie is actually about.

Marvel Studios released the official trailer for its highly anticipated superhero event, “Doomsday,” on Monday. The trailer reveals a showdown between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as Thor teaming up with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). It shows him attempting to unite Earth’s heroes – including the Avengers, the New Avengers (also known as the Thunderbolts), and the Fantastic Four – to face this new threat.

A haunting voice warns that something dangerous is approaching – something we might not be able to stop. By the end of the day, we’ll have to make a difficult and unexpected choice.

Doom is likely the one speaking as the voiceover finishes, and he then appears on screen. In the comic books, Doom comes from Latveria, a made-up country in southeastern Europe. The name ‘Latveria’ was briefly visible last year in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which also included Doom’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the credits rolled.

The trailer then turns to Thor, who warns about a dangerous and mysterious enemy. He urges the different teams of heroes to stop fighting amongst themselves and work together to face this threat. The clip ends with a heartwarming scene of Thor reuniting with Captain America.

“We really need a miracle,” Thor says just before he reunites with an old friend. He then asks his friend—the former Captain America—to try lifting his hammer, Mjölnir, as a way to prove who he is. Only those deemed worthy can lift the hammer, and Steve Rogers successfully did so in the movie “Avengers: Endgame” (2019).

The trailer shows quick scenes of several exciting matchups and interactions. We see Gambit fighting Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova going head-to-head with Mystique, and Loki dealing with his TVA credentials. There are also moments featuring M’Baku and Shuri meeting Ben Grimm and Sue Storm, Charles Xavier connecting with Magneto, and Scott Lang sharing an emotional hug with Cassie.

The initial trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is out, and it officially shows Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers – and he now has a baby!

Okay, so the Russo brothers just dropped the trailer we’ve all been dying to see on Instagram, and they were super sweet about it – they said they were sharing it ‘with much love’! It’s finally here, guys!

Marvel describes the upcoming “Doomsday” event as bringing together popular heroes from different universes who will be forced to confront a danger greater than any they’ve faced before.

Let me tell you, the lineup for this movie is stacked. We’ve got Pedro Pascal stepping into the role of Reed Richards, alongside Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson. Familiar faces like Wyatt Russell’s John Walker and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes are back, but there are some exciting additions too! James Marsden will be Scott Summers, with Joseph Quinn taking on Johnny Storm. And it doesn’t stop there – David Harbour returns as Red Guardian, Lewis Pullman plays Bob Reynolds, Kelsey Grammer is Hank McCoy/Beast, and Danny Ramirez appears as Joaquin Torres. Plus, keep an eye out for Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr, Mabel Cadena as Namora, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia making a splash as Namor. Honestly, with this much talent, it’s hard not to be excited!

A new trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday” is coming out just before San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Marvel Studios hasn’t been to the convention in a year, but they’ll be back in Hall H on Saturday to show off their future movies and shows. They revealed their next major villain – Doctor Doom, played by Downey – during last year’s presentation.

“Avengers: Doomsday” will hit theaters Dec. 18.
