Although Masters of the Universe just hit theaters last month, you’ll soon be able to enjoy the fantasy adventure at home. Prime Video has announced the film will be available for streaming soon.
This sword-and-sorcery adventure is inspired by the popular Mattel franchise and tells the story of Adam Glenn, also known as He-Man (played by Nicholas Galitzine), who journeys back to his home world, Eternia, to stop the villainous Skeletor (Jared Leto).
Since Amazon MGM Studios released the movie in the US and Canada, while Sony Pictures handled other countries, it was likely it would eventually be available on Prime Video.
Many were surprised by how quickly it’s coming to the streaming service – it will be available this Wednesday, July 22nd. That’s only 46 days after its release in theaters, which is much faster than the wait for the movie Project Hail Mary.
The film’s disappointing performance in theaters – earning only $113 million on a production budget estimated between $170 and $200 million, according to Box Office Mojo – might be why plans are changing. However, reports suggest a sequel is still being planned.

Despite not performing well at the box office, Masters of the Universe received somewhat better reviews. Currently, the film holds a 67% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 251 reviews, and audiences have given it an even stronger score of 86%.
Actor Galitzine, known for his roles in Bottoms and The Idea of You, told Digital Spy at the movie premiere that landing the part of He-Man felt like a dream come true.
I’d auditioned for many superhero roles over the years, but I never truly felt a strong connection to the characters. This was the one I really wanted, and I know many of the other actors felt the same way.
Travis Knight directed the film, which features a strong cast including Galitzine and Leto, alongside Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley, and Morena Baccarin.
Masters of the Universe is coming to Prime Video on Wednesday 22 July.
