BBC World Cup commentator is mocked for mixing up Pharrell Williams with A$AP Rocky and calling him ‘AKA Rocky’ in ‘cringe’ moment

During Sunday’s World Cup final, BBC commentator Guy Mowbray had an embarrassing moment when he incorrectly identified Pharrell Williams as A$AP Rocky.

The cameras showed several famous celebrities in the New Jersey stadium while Spain played Argentina.

Guy made another mistake when he referred to A$AP Rocky as simply “Rocky,” and fans quickly pointed it out online.

Okay, so I was watching this video and noticed Pharrell sitting behind Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. I actually stumbled over the name a bit myself, calling him ‘AKA Rocky’ before correcting myself to A$AP Rocky! It happens, right?

One viewer commented on X, reacting to the video by saying they’d never seen anyone so confidently incorrect.

‘Sometimes, it’s best to say nothing at all,’ another wrote about the incident.

One viewer found it amusing that commentator Guy Mowbray referred to ASAP Rocky as ‘AKA,’ but even funnier was that he seemed to be looking at Pharrell Williams at the same time.

I was distracted, but when I looked up after hearing him say ‘AKA Rocky’ and then correct himself, I instantly thought, ‘That has to be Pharrell.’ It was just a quick look, but I was certain.

‘The guy that sang Happy and Blurred Lines? Oh you mean AKA Rocky?

Some viewers pointed out that A$AP Rocky and Rihanna were actually sitting directly in front of Williams, which explained why the announcer made the error. He probably had a seating chart and simply misidentified who was where.

Pharrell Williams is an award-winning musician and producer with 13 Grammys. He’s famous for popular songs like “Happy,” “Get Lucky” (featuring Daft Punk), and “Blurred Lines” (with Robin Thicke).

I’m a huge fan of A$AP Rocky – his birth name is Rakim Mayers, by the way – and it’s so great to see him with Rihanna! They make an amazing couple, and he’s such a talented hip-hop artist.

During the broadcast, Fox commentators made a mistake and thought Matt Damon was Brad Pitt while showing a shot of the VIP section at MetLife Stadium.

‘Brad Pitt also among the fans here,’ the commentator said before quickly correcting himself.

“It’s Matt Damon! That’s him. We’ve also had some glare issues on the screens – please apologize for that,” he instructed.

People on X found the mix-up funny, with one user joking, ‘Could have been worse!’

Matt attended the World Cup with his wife, Luciana Barroso, who is from Argentina and proudly wore the country’s blue and white colors.

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time thanks to a goal by Ferran Torres in the 106th minute, during their match at MetLife Stadium.

Beyonce, Rihanna, Kylie Jenner, Tom Cruise, Dua Lipa, and the Beckhams were among the many celebrities who attended what is being called the most star-packed football event ever.

Jon Hamm, Adrien Brody, and Blake Lively were also at the event. Lively hasn’t been seen much lately, especially after missing her friend Taylor Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce earlier this month.
