Netflix recently started filming Queensland, a unique eight-part series – it’s the very first original production they’ve ordered from New Zealand.
The show takes place in the glamorous ski resort town and centers on the lives of its wealthy residents and visitors. It particularly focuses on one incredibly privileged family torn apart by internal conflict, and the staff who work for them and get caught in the middle of the drama.
Rufus Sewell, famous for his role in The Diplomat, and Frances O’Connor, known from The Missing, are the leads in the cast. They’re joined by Alycia Debnam-Carey, who starred in Fear the Walking Dead, and New Zealand actor Te Kohe Tuhaka.
Amanda Duthie, Netflix’s director of content for Australia and New Zealand, announced (on the Netflix blog, Tudum) that filming their first original series produced in New Zealand is a significant milestone for the company.
This gripping story explores themes of power, social class, and family secrets, all set in the glamorous world of a high-end ski resort. We think our readers will be as captivated by it as we are.

The show is receiving funding from the New Zealand Film Commission and the Screen Production Rebate, which is also helping to create jobs and support local businesses and crew in New Zealand, according to Duthie.
Meanwhile, The Diplomat released its third season last year and has been renewed for a fourth.
Queenstown does not currently have a release window, but will release on Netflix.
