A star from Netflix’s Mindhunter is officially joining a new serial killer thriller.
Actor Holt McCallany will star in a new crime thriller while the future of his previous series, Mindhunter, remains uncertain. He played FBI agent Bill Tench on Mindhunter, which explored the beginnings of the Bureau’s Behavioral Science Unit. The show was known for its realistic conversations between Bill, his colleague Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), and the serial killers they interviewed in the 1970s and 80s. Though critically acclaimed, Mindhunter concluded after two seasons, leaving its storyline unresolved.
According to Deadline, Bill McCallany will star in the new movie Hyde, playing a detective investigating a serial killer โ a role similar to his work on Mindhunter. The film, described as a dark and atmospheric thriller, features McCallany as Detective Grimes, tracking a killer in a gritty city. He joins Bruce Greenwood, Nathalie Emmanuel, and David Harewood in the project, which is currently filming in Bucharest, Romania. Directors Graham and Parker Phillips have expressed their enthusiasm for the cast and the crime thriller.
We’re delighted to be collaborating with such talented and cooperative people. Everyone brought fantastic ideas, excellent intuition, and a genuine openness to experiment and push boundaries, all while filming in Bucharest โ a city whose unique look and feel perfectly suit this dark and unusual story.
The Phillips brothers not only wrote the screenplay but are also producing the movie through their production company, Phillips Pictures. Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek of Traction are co-producing, with Cassian Elwes, Keith Danko, and Bailey Rotsky serving as executive producers. Tamasco and Kristofek shared their enthusiasm about actor Bill McCallany joining the project, stating they are thrilled to have him as the lead.
We’re thrilled to welcome Holt to the cast, joining Nathalie, Bruce, and David. We’re incredibly excited about the talented team we’ve assembled here in Romania and the film we’re making. We can’t wait for everyone to see Hyde.
John McCallany will work closely with the rest of the cast. Emmanuel will play Detective Doran, assisting Grimes in his investigation of a serial killer. Greenwood will portray Henry Monroe, a therapist who helps Grimes understand his past and his determination to catch the main killer, known as Hyde. And Harewood will play Lieutenant Robert Malloy, who struggles to maintain the police department with limited resources while also overseeing Grimes’ work.
I recently checked out Hyde, and it’s great to see Holt McCallany taking on another compelling lead role after Mindhunter. He’s been incredibly busy, popping up as Secretary Bernstein in Mission: Impossible โ Dead Reckoning Part One and Neil Bishop in the latest season of The Lincoln Lawyer. He’s also got some exciting things coming up โ a part in season three of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and even a role in a new Brad Pitt project. But Hyde feels particularly significant because McCallany gets to flex those investigative muscles again, reminding me a lot of the fantastic work he did on Mindhunter.
Now that filming has started, we’ll probably learn more about the movie Hyde soon. This will include details about the city where the story takes place and why the serial killer Grimes is so important to the plot. Viewers who have seen Mindhunter on Netflix might find some similarities, but Hyde will definitely tell its own unique story. While the presence of actor Holt McCallany might draw comparisons, this film will ultimately be distinct.
