Outlander is returning sooner than originally thought.
Originally a historical fantasy book series by Diana Gabaldon starting in the late 1980s, Outlander has become a hugely popular television show with several related programs. The story combines romance, science fiction, and history, centering on Claire Randall’s journey from the 20th century to 18th-century Scotland, where she falls in love with a Highland warrior named Jamie Fraser.
Starz has announced that season 2 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood will premiere on September 18th. A new trailer has been released, offering a sneak peek at the prequel series’ latest season following the conclusion of the original Outlander show. This season will focus on the two main couples as a potential war threatens both their relationships and the future of the Scottish Highlands.
In season 1, Claire’s parents, Henry (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia (Hermione Corfield) Beauchamp, traveled back to 18th-century Scotland and became separated, but they eventually found each other again at the Craigh na Dun stones. Season 2 begins immediately after this reunion, showing Julia alone with their baby while Henry tries to return to them.
Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie find a way to stay together despite their dangerous and forbidden love. However, their escape coincides with the start of the 1715 Jacobite Rising, forcing them to balance their personal feelings with the demands of their clans. Brian feels obligated to fulfill his duties, while Ellen desperately wants to be reunited with her family.
In the second season, the two couples will face new challenges and be pulled apart as the clans take sides in a growing rebellion, putting them on opposing paths.
Season 2 of Outlander: Blood of my Blood will feature returning cast members including Tony Curran as Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, Séamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie, Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie, Rory Alexander as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, and Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan. Matthew B. Roberts will again lead the show as showrunner, with Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, Michael Wilson, Jim Kohlberg, and Luke Parker Bowles serving as executive producers.
As a huge fan of Outlander, the series finale left me feeling a bit conflicted. It took the story in a completely new direction, and honestly, it’s tough knowing Diana Gabaldon hasn’t finished writing the books yet – we don’t get a real sense of closure. Everyone’s craving more of Claire and Jamie’s story, that’s for sure! But I’m also really excited about Blood of My Blood. The first season is getting amazing reviews – an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes is seriously impressive, and it’s definitely piqued my interest!
Outlander: Blood of my Blood season 2 will premiere on September 18.
