The British actor is known for his varied and successful career, having played memorable characters in many different kinds of films. Now, he’s taking on the role of a determined and ruthless warlord in the new action movie, Seven Snipers.
What Happens in Seven Snipers?
The new film, Seven Snipers, centers on Kris Hendricks, known as “Voodoo Child” and formerly a highly skilled and feared sniper. After years of fighting, she’s retreated to a quiet Australian farm, hoping to raise her headstrong daughter, Anja, far away from her violent past.
Her carefully built new life falls apart when her true identity is revealed, and she’s pursued by the cruel warlord who once imprisoned her. Now, Kris must battle him while shielding her daughter and desperately trying to keep her hidden past from coming to light.
I just saw a quick preview of this new movie, and it looks amazing! It starts with Kris and her daughter noticing a helicopter heading their way, but then it gets shot down – and that’s when things really kick off! Kris gets her daughter home, but they’re immediately attacked, and now they’re on the run, trying to find somewhere safe. It’s super intense!
In addition to Roth, who portrays The Dragon, the film Seven Snipers features Radha Mitchell (known for Silent Hill) in the main role, alongside Ioan Gruffudd (The Fantastic Four, Titanic), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Charles Cottier (Wanted), and Annabel Wolfe (Black Snow).
Sandra Sciberras, known for The Green Door, directed the action film, which was written by Andrew O’Keefe, the creator of Crime & Punishment.
Seven Snipers Is the Perfect Sicario Replacement
If you’re eagerly waiting for the next film in a certain series, Seven Snipers is a great alternative. Director Sandra Sciberras has said the 2015 movie was heavily influenced by films like Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, aiming for the same kind of gripping tension – a feeling where danger is always present but hidden, then suddenly erupts.
Although Seven Snipers doesn’t yet have an official Rotten Tomatoes score, early reviews are promising. Six out of the seven reviews available have been positive, with critics highlighting the film’s exciting action, strong direction, and the performances of Tim Roth and Radha Mitchell.
Grant Watson of Fiction Machine called the film very enjoyable for fans of the action genre. He explained that it’s a simple, direct action movie, and viewers who like that style will likely have fun watching it, even if the plot isn’t the most important part.
David Griffiths from Subculture Entertainment noted that while Seven Snipers doesn’t quite build the tension it aims for, it’s still a solid sniper movie, and Radha Mitchell’s performance elevates it even further.
Seven Snipers hit digital on June 5.
