Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton on the Apple TV series Ted Lasso, says her relationship with co-star Jason Sudeikis is playfully complicated, similar to the initially tense connection between her character and Ted Lasso. She describes it as an ‘ongoing love-hate relationship‘.
The hit comedy-drama will be back for a fourth season later this year. Jason Sudeikis, who created and stars in the show, will reprise his role as the main character, who is returning to the AFC Richmond football club after a brief move back to Kansas.
The new season is arriving three years after the last one aired, and five years after the season before that. According to Variety, one reason for the delay was that Jason Sudeikis spent a lot of time perfecting the script with numerous revisions.

In a recent interview discussing the upcoming fourth season, Juno Temple explained that Jason Sudeikis’s collaborative approach to acting means scenes often evolve through improvisation and discussion.
I can hear when he changes things, and then we adjust them,” the actor, who’s played Rebecca for three seasons, explained. “You really have to be flexible with him. He and I often have a complicated relationship—he’ll change things right before we film, which can be frustrating.

I’ve seen Waddingham in stuff like Mission: Impossible and The Woman in Cabin 10, and she was talking about Rebecca and Ted’s relationship on the show. I really liked how they just didn’t follow the usual romantic storyline – it was cool that they were just friends and didn’t feel pressured to be anything more. It’s refreshing to see that kind of dynamic on TV, honestly.
Even though she has a complicated relationship with Jason Sudeikis, the actress was happy to hear that the Apple TV show would be back for a fourth season. She wasn’t shocked by the news, as the third season was always intended to potentially continue.
Man, that ending left me hanging! But I’m seriously thrilled it’s back. Honestly, the idea of never playing Rebecca again felt like losing a good friend. It was tough thinking I wouldn’t get to step into her shoes anymore.

The fourth season, coming in August, will show Ted coaching the AFC Richmond women’s team, who are playing in the second division. He’ll be working alongside familiar face Coach Beard (played by Brendan Hunt) and a new assistant coach, played by Tanya Reynolds.
The next season will be Ted’s most difficult yet. It promises a story about Ted and his team taking bold risks and stepping outside their comfort zones.
Ted Lasso streams on Apple TV, with Season 4 due to premiere on 5 August.
