LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a remarkably fun and original LEGO game, and many consider it one of the best Batman stories ever told. It covers Batman’s entire history, drawing from all different eras and sources. Because of everything it accomplishes, it’s hard to imagine how LEGO could create a better Batman game in the future.
Instead of just looking back at old Batman stories, Legacy of the Dark Knight cleverly combines and reinvents elements from classic movies, TV shows, and comics into a single, imaginative game and story. It’s a fantastic tribute to Batman and his rich, nearly 90-year history.
I’ve finished the main story in Legacy of the Dark Knight, but honestly, Gotham is still full of secrets! There’s so much to discover – hidden Easter eggs and collectibles everywhere. LEGO really knocked it out of the park with this game; it’s a perfect tribute to Batman. It got me thinking, though – what other franchises could work as well in a LEGO game? And for me, there’s one character who immediately comes to mind. Their history and world are just as rich and would absolutely thrive with the LEGO treatment.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight Truly Lives Up To Its Name
Like a lot of Batman fans playing the new LEGO game, I’m really amazed by how well it brings together Batman’s entire story.
The story of Bruce Wayne’s beginnings draws inspiration from several different Batman films. It blends elements from Tim Burton’s movies with characters and lines of dialogue from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The film is full of familiar imagery and nods to past versions, and even the characters themselves are interesting combinations of different interpretations. For example, The Penguin is a mix of Colin Farrell and Danny DeVito’s performances, the Joker shifts between Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger’s versions, and Bane takes inspiration from Tom Hardy but also includes powers similar to those seen in the original comics and the film Batman & Robin.
The game is packed with references to Batman movies, comics, cartoons, and even the Arkham video games, showcasing iconic Batsuits and Batmobiles. The gameplay feels similar to the acclaimed Arkham series, but with more complex combat and enhanced movement, offering a great open-world experience for LEGO fans.
LEGO Should Absolutely Give Spider-Man The Same Legacy Treatment
Considering everything, I think Spider-Man would be a great choice for LEGO’s next big legacy game. Similar to Batman, Spider-Man has a long and popular history in comics, movies, and other media, with many different versions that fans love.
A LEGO Spider-Man game could draw inspiration from all corners of the Spider-Man universe – including the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Spider-Verse movies, animated series, and the original comics. Similar to how LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight features different versions of Batman, this game could include unique playable characters like Spider-Noir, Spider-Ham, Spider-Gwen, Miles Morales, and Spider-Man 2099, each with their own special powers.
The basic structure for how the game would play is already established. LEGO could take inspiration from the popular open-world Spider-Man games and their fighting style, much like Legacy of the Dark Knight borrowed gameplay elements from the Arkham series.
Given Spider-Man’s rich history, he deserves a LEGO celebration comparable to the recent, hugely successful ‘Legacy of the Dark Knight’ set – one that covers his entire story. If LEGO wants to surpass or match that success, Spider-Man is the perfect choice.
