“Incredibly watchable” procedural crime series with Tim Roth lands new UK streaming home

The crime drama Lie to Me, featuring Tim Roth and Kelli Williams, is now available to stream in the UK. The show, which followed a case-of-the-week format, originally aired for three seasons with a total of 48 episodes before concluding in 2011.

The show features Lie to Me’s Dr. Cal Lightman, a highly skilled expert in reading body language. He heads a team who work as consultants for law enforcement, helping to crack cases by analyzing people’s behavior.

When standard police methods don’t uncover the truth, the team analyzes subtle facial expressions and body language. They also employ specialized interviewing and interrogation methods to get to the bottom of things.

Created by Samuel Baum, the series draws inspiration from the work of Paul Ekman, a leading psychologist who revolutionized our understanding of emotions and how we communicate without words.

The San Jose Mercury News wasn’t as impressed, noting that the show felt too similar to hits like The Mentalist and House. They felt it tried so hard to copy those shows’ formulas that it became predictable.
