While Jenna Ortega is now known for a very popular Netflix show, her earlier work on the streaming service’s Jurassic Park spin-off is still a favorite among fans of the series. Looking at how much money the Jurassic Park/World movies have made, you might think the franchise is doing incredibly well in 2026. The series has always been a box office success, but that’s not the whole picture when it comes to these blockbuster films.

While Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Jurassic Park was a critical hit, none of the sequels have reached the same level of success. The Netflix spin-off series, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, featuring a talented voice cast including Kausar Mohammed, Sean Giambrone, Raini Rodriguez, and Jenna Ortega (before her breakout role in the 2022 Scream reboot), successfully captured the original blend of adventure, horror, and compelling characters that made the series popular. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which premiered in 2020, takes place between the events of Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Was An Early Star Vehicle For Jenna Ortega

The animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of teenagers who win a chance to experience the inner workings of Jurassic World. Their visit unfortunately coincides with a major disaster, leaving them stranded and fighting for survival as dinosaurs escape and roam the park. Darius, played by Paul-Mikél Williams, attempts to guide the group, but faces challenges due to the strong personalities of Kenji Kon, Sammy Gutierrez (played by Rodriguez), and the aspiring influencer, Ortega.

The interesting characters in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous make the story surprisingly unpredictable, as the show doesn’t hesitate to put them in genuine peril. Even though it’s animated, the series embraces the franchise’s darker elements and often feels more suspenseful and intense than Jurassic World: Dominion, which is relatively light on tension.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous’s Spinoff Story Is Designed To Be Binged

Despite what viewers might expect, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous consistently surprises with unexpected and genuinely frightening twists, capturing the thrilling feel of the original Jurassic Park. Unlike Jurassic World: Dominion, which avoided killing off important characters, Camp Cretaceous doesn’t shy away from showing just how terrifying it is to be stranded on an island full of dinosaurs with nowhere safe to hide.

Kyla Terrel Ortega delivers a standout performance as Brooklynn, and the entire cast of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is consistently strong. This makes the show’s dramatic moments, including character deaths, truly impactful, and keeps viewers genuinely concerned for the heroes’ fate – something many felt was lacking in the Jurassic World films. Although some longtime Jurassic Park fans were initially hesitant about the animated style, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous has ultimately proven to be the best continuation of the franchise so far.
