I’m so hooked on Dutton Ranch! Natalie Alyn Lind hinted at a massive twist coming up, and honestly, I can’t wait! Apparently, we’re going to see Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in a whole new light – something Yellowstone fans have never experienced before. We’re almost halfway through the first season, and things are really heating up for them in Rio Paloma, Texas. A tragedy is looming that could completely change everything for them, and I’m on the edge of my seat!
In the third episode of Dutton Ranch, Beth and Rip discovered their black angus cattle had foot-and-mouth disease. The only solution is to eliminate the entire herd, a heartbreaking event for both the characters and the audience. Losing their cattle is a major blow to the Dutton Ranch, and Beth and Rip now face a serious crisis.
Natalie Alyn Lind, speaking with ScreenRant about the fourth episode of Dutton Ranch, suggested that the rest of season one will feature a surprising twist – something completely new for the Yellowstone universe. As a fan of the Yellowstone franchise, Lind also promises the show will present its characters in a way viewers haven’t seen before. Here’s what she had to say:
ScreenRant: What are you most excited for fans to see in the back half of Dutton Ranch season 1?
Natalie Lind hints that the new season will take the story in a completely unexpected direction, unlike anything viewers have seen before in the Yellowstone universe. As both an actress and a fan of the show, she believes the twists and turns will genuinely surprise audiences. We’ll see familiar characters – like Beth and Rip – behave in new and surprising ways, offering a fresh perspective. While she remains tight-lipped about specifics, Lind assures viewers that everything will make sense once they watch the season unfold.
As a huge fan, I was really fascinated by Natalie Alyn Lind’s insights into her character, Oreana. She shared some surprising details – apparently, Oreana is actually older than Carter! She also explained what drives this rebellious granddaughter of Beulah Jackson, the head of 10-Petals Ranch. Here’s what Natalie had to say, in her own words:
In episode 104, a character tells Oreana, “If you want freedom, then stop acting like a child.” Looking back at her actions throughout the episode – sneaking around, experimenting with drugs, and stealing the truck – it feels less like she’s strategically planning things and more like she’s simply acting out as a rebellious teenager. I’m curious to get your take: is Oreana’s behavior driven by youthful rebellion, or is there a larger, more complex plan behind it?
I believe there’s a larger scheme unfolding, and it’s fascinating to watch how she uses different methods to get attention. Everything she does is deliberate – she’s very intelligent. What’s particularly interesting about my character is her background: she’s a college graduate from a top school and is actually older than Carter’s character. My character is supposed to be around 23 or 24, while Carter is 19. So, her current behavior isn’t typical for a teenager, as she isn’t one. I think she’s seeking affection and recognition, which is difficult to come by within the Jackson family. We all try to support each other, but we’re so flawed that she feels the need to make her presence known and will manipulate situations to get the attention she craves. Every action is calculated.
I believe her actions come from a place of deep hurt, stemming from difficult experiences in her life. Viewers will be intrigued to learn the origins of her rebellious nature and how it developed. As you uncover different aspects of her past, you’ll gain a clearer understanding of who she is. It was crucial to me from the start to avoid portraying her as simply mean-spirited. It’s easy to play a character who’s just unpleasant, but without understanding her motivations, she becomes unlikeable. It’s a delicate balance to figure out why people behave the way they do. As the season progresses, you’ll begin to understand the reasons behind Oreana’s personality and actions.
As a big fan of Yellowstone, I’ve noticed a really interesting parallel between Oreana and Carter’s developing connection and the young Beth and Rip. The flashbacks throughout the show really highlight that. It’s clear Oreana is acting out because she’s deeply hurt by things in her past, and while the show is slowly revealing details, it feels like her complicated relationship with her dad, Rob-Will Jackson (Jai Courtney), is a huge part of it. It’s heartbreaking to watch, and I’m eager to learn more about what happened.
Beulah wants Oreana to eventually run 10-Petals Ranch, but Oreana doesn’t want that future – she’s determined not to become like her grandmother. It’s surprising to learn Oreana went to college, as she often acts like a teenager. However, Natalie Lind explains that this behavior is Oreana’s way of desperately seeking attention and validation.
We’re starting to get a clearer understanding of 10-Petals Ranch, and the cowboys who work there, along with people close to the family like Everett McKinney (Ed Harris), have hinted at problems within the Jackson family. The Jacksons, like the Duttons on Yellowstone, likely have a troubled past and have done questionable things to maintain control of their ranch, which has been in the family for 190 years. They clearly have secrets.
Fans can expect some major surprises coming to Dutton Ranch. The show has already stood out from Yellowstone by focusing more on its characters and less on dramatic events. According to Natalie Alyn Lind, the next five episodes of Dutton Ranch will reveal a lot about the characters and offer viewers some unexpected developments.
